Repost from @nationaltrust • We will remember them. This autumn, Stowe Gardens in Buckinghamshire has been hosting the British D-Day 80 memorial exhibition, For Your Tomorrow - the People’s Tribute. Created by community artist Dan Barton, the number of figures in the display represents the number of fatalities under British command on 6 June 1944. Among the 1,475 silhouettes of Second World War military personnel, there are also two bespoke figures of nurses. They are of Sister Mollie Evershed and Sister Dorothy Field who died while helping to save 75 men from the hospital ship SS Amsterdam, which sank off the Normandy beaches on 7 August 1944. The memorial installation was previously displayed at The British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer, France and we have been honoured to host the exhibition at Stowe. Video description: A montage of video clips showing silhouettes of military personnel in the grounds at Stowe. Follies and woodland trees visible in the background. Clips are both taken at dusk and into the evening. People can be seen singing, playing instruments and reflecting on the exhibition both individually and in small groups. The video ends with moonlight shining through tree branches.

Repost from @james.crews.poet • I’m thinking of all my friends and loved ones who feel unsafe and under threat and worried right now. I’m feeling it too. But let those of us who are truly awake welcome everyone with open arms, letting them know there is a safe space for them in our hearts. That’s true spiritual practice. #safespace #poems #poetrycommunity #poetryofig #igpoets #igpoetry #lgbtq #lgbtq🌈

Repost from @nikita_gill • Human beings have no choice but to persist. To survive, we must persist. For the sake of everyone we love, we must persist. Hope is an action. Hope is built from bones and sinew and muscle. It is not an easy thing to hold and not often pretty. But it is the thing that makes the world a better place to be in.

Repost from @emergencemagazine • “We pretended that we understood. We pretended that we had everything under control, while in the older traditions they did things with humility, which we have not done.” — @andrimagnason As he retraces his grandparents’ annual spring journey to the glacier with his son Hylnur, storyteller Andri Snær Magnason reaches for the myths—the family memories and stories that bind him to this landscape—that can help him fathom the accelerating transformation of this ancient glacier. Such incomprehensible shifts in the geology of the Earth, he says, are either “a creation story or a destruction story”—one we must learn to tell beyond the limitations of data if there is to be a change in the ways we understand and care for the future. No! Repost from @ninaansary • Libya introduces horrific discriminatory laws for women similar to the Taliban in Afghanistan and the Islamic regime in Iran, with compulsory veiling laws, harsh enforcement of “modesty” measures by the “morality police,” ban from interacting with men in public spaces and barred from traveling without a male guardian. The Libyan Interior Minister has said that those “seeking freedom should go to Europe.”

Repost from @nikita_gill • I wrote this for a wonderful friend of mine when she was going through a very painful divorce a while back because she asked me for a poem to justify her righteous anger at being mistreated horribly. She told me this fuelled her. I am bringing this back to remind you: Your rage is sacred. Your rage is fuel. Your rage is the fire you need. No more swallowing it until you are ill. You are allowed to be angry. You are allowed to be angry. It is a valid emotion that demands to be felt. Your rage is sacred.

Repost from @folgerlibrary • A very happy 401st birthday to the First Folio! 🎂 We don’t think it looks a day over 400. 😉 Published on November 8, 1623, seven years after Shakespeare’s death, the First Folio was the first printed collection of many of his plays and helped to preserve his work for future generations. Without it, AS YOU LIKE IT, JULIUS CAESAR, MACBETH, and THE TEMPEST (and many more) may have been lost forever. Our founders Henry and Emily Folger were avid folio hunters. The 82 copies of the folio in our collection are now on display in our renovated exhibition hall. Come visit the birthday book sometime soon (it’s free!).

Please don’t let the anticipation of horrors to come change you. Be the loving person you are in every way you can every single moment of every day. Be clear that goodness, empathy, fairness, and love are the only bearable ways to live. Love always wins. We are genetically programmed to care for one another. Repost from @mixedemotions_club

The work of saving our democracy begins. Don’t ever give up rights in anticipation of them being taken from you. Use the powers outlined in the Bill of Rights to their fullest! Play the songs, read the books you know will be banned, watch the movies, keep being kind, keep saying what you think and feel. Keep the story of every single one of us alive. Repost from @indivisibleteam • We are not going to give Trump power that he does not have. Don’t do the fascists’ work for them.

Repost from @stonehenge • We have been lucky to welcome some talented artists to Stonehenge. Recently @erlandcooper along with @freyagoldmark and @sergio_eka, recorded a mesmerising music video at the stones and provided the spectacular soundtrack to our moonrise livestream, as part of our Major Lunar Standstill programme. 🌕 A few years ago, @samleesong came to Stonehenge and sang the Moon Shines Bright as part of our Songs of England project. On 29 November, you can see both Erland and Sam perform live at @bristol_beacon in a special celebration of music & nature. We love the way the stars (and moon) are aligning here! ✨
