The proper technique to visualise and measure the cervix 1. Do a vaginal scan and exert a degree of pressure to visualise the cervix properly. 2. Withdraw the probe slightly to take the pressure off the cervix, then make your landmark identification of the external and internal os. 3. Follow the cervical mucus, double-check, and then take the measurement. The cervix is a soft organ, so if you apply a lot of pressure, you can falsely increase the length of the cervix.
