Memorial Day weekend 2011, we saw you hiding from the hot sun under an SUV parked across the street from our house. We weren't sure where you came from because it seemed you appeared at the same time the guy who parked the SUV left for the river for the day, so we angrily speculated that he had left you there. I walked over with a bowl of water and got you to come out from underneath the car. Your dad followed shortly after, but you didn't care for him much at first. We, again speculating, were guessing a man may not have been kind to you because you were nervous around guys. After contemplating what to do and with the neighbors' encouragement, we decided to bring you over to our house. We weren't sure if someone would come looking for you, so you went by "pup pup" for about two weeks and slept on a small rug in the garage at night.  Secretly hoping that no one would come claim you, we cautiously didn't want to get too attached. I still remember that shortly after we realized you were ours, we were on our way to the beach, and as we were driving through Dothan, we finally agreed on your name - Charlie. It was the perfect fit. I also remember how your dad told me it was not a good idea to let you sleep in the bed, but you were so cute and so tiny - how in the world could I not have you snuggled up with us at night. So that was that (you're welcome 😘). Aside from some travel over the years, we haven't missed many sleeps together. My sweet Charlie dog, our days, our nights, and our little pod will not be the same without you. Our hearts are so shattered, but man, are we so grateful for thirteen years of immeasurable love, joyful greetings, and countless memories. I hope God put all the squirrels and birds in Heaven on notice that a new hound dog was joining the crew. Rest easy, buddy. We love you forever. 💙💙
