They completed refashioned the nearly defunct property, greatly reducing yields and speeding up and controlling the fermentations as well as macerations. . In our Los Angeles Fine and Rare auction is a trove of Ports, including 1964 Quinta do Noval Nacional…. . Quinta do Noval began in 1715 and belonged to the Rebello Valente family and Viscount Vilar d’Allen in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries respectively. In 1845 the property was bought by Antonió Jose da Silva. Da Silva invested in improving and renovating the property and this included planting a small vineyard on its own roots, which became the legendary Nacional vineyard that is produced entirely from un-grafted vines. . Today the estate is part of the Axa Millésimes group (which includes Château Pichon-Baron, Château Petit Village and Château Suduiraut) under the management of Christian Seely with Antonió Agrellos as Technical Director responsible for the wine-making and production. . The 145 hectare estate is located in the Cima Corgo close to the town of Pinhão. Ports bearing the name “Quinta do Noval” are produced from grapes grown on the estate, whereas Silval refers to their vintage ports produced from grapes grown off the estate and is generally a port designed for earlier drinking than Quinta do Noval. .
