“I have had the feeling that we are in an art renaissance; this exhibition and the Brooklyn Museum as a whole are confirming that for me,” shares Brooklyn-born artist Caleb Miller. The Brooklyn Museum has long supported artists in the borough, but the Brooklyn Artists Exhibition is its largest-ever showcase of local artists (over 200!!). @sachin.bhola spoke to three of the participating artists—William Villalongo, Tinuade Oyelowo, and Caleb Miller—about the role Brooklyn has played in their lives and work. Head to the link in bio for the breakdown. The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition is open through January 26. #Presentedby @brooklynmuseum #BkM200 #BrooklynMuseum #artexhibition #TinuadeOyelowo #WilliamVillalongo #CalebMiller

Coney Island locals gathered last night to debate a proposal from a developer that would introduce a towering casino, hotel, music venue, and convention center complex along the iconic Coney Island boardwalk. While advocates are seemingly pro-business, relishing the thought of year-long foot traffic in an area reliant on seasonal tourism, opponents of the proposal are focused on the day-to-day lives of those who already live and work there. “It’s clear to us that this is simply a catastrophic destruction of the entire neighborhood!,” shares Coney Island USA, a local non-profit arts organization leading the campaign against the casino. More on the proposal and reactions are at our LINK IN BIO. 🔗 #coneyisland #coneyislandboardwalk #theconey

Pastry Chef Julia Kiskie of Midwood brought the championship home to Brooklyn at the third annual Gingerbread NYC: The Great Borough Bake-Off. 🏆️ Her edible version of the legendary UWS-based Dakota Apartments (made from 13 pounds of gingerbread!) beat out entries including Prospect Park's Boathouse, the Empire State Building, a recreation of Yorkville, and many other iconic NYC sights. The apartment building housed several legends like Judy Garland and Lauren Bacall. And tragically, it was where John Lennon was ruthlessly murdered. More on the 200 hours Kiskie spent on her incredible gingerbread structure is at the link in bio. Photos via Getty and @museumofcityny #gingerbread #thedakota #bakeoff #bakingcompetition
