It is a truly spectacular viewpoint, both for Skye across the sea and for the Horns and Liathach inland.⠀ ⠀ With a more open face than its neighbour Liathach, Beinn Alligin doesn't so much dare you to set foot, as invite you in. Baslow Edge is a beautiful outcrop of gritstone rocks in the Peak District, which makes it one of the Peak District Edges!⠀ ⠀ There are several popular edge walks in the Peak District, but Baslow Edge is one of my favourites. The Coledale and Whiteside horseshoe routes can be combined into a single epic loop - perfect if you’re looking to push yourself a little or just fancy a full day of hiking. Despite the strong winds, rain and limited visibility, this long day hike was absolutely superb. Some lovely snowy shots of the Aonach Eagach ridge, a grade 2/3 scramble in Glencoe, from @gabriellafaith__ It is known as the narrowest ridge on the British mainland, and links the Munros of Meall Dearg and Sgòrr nam Fiannaidh. The ridge stretches for 4km, and there are some trickier sections, including a number of down climbs. But it’s a fun ridge to tackle if you have a head for heights, and a great day out, with stunning views of Glencoe! It can be a difficult scramble, so make sure you are a confident scrambler and don’t mind exposure, choose a dry day to avoid slippery rocks, and allow enough time to complete the route in daylight. Seathwaite Fell // 8 miles & 630m ascent A bit of an underrated Wainwright this, in my opinion, not very much talked about, but a great hike and amazing views. You couldn’t really ask for more! Standing almost at the head of Seathwaite valley (Great End really takes that spot), Seathwaite Fell is surrounded by some big, towering mountains - Glaramara to the east, Great Gable to the west and Great End to the south. The path up from Seathwaite, through the valley and across Stockley Bridge before circling round the east of Seathwaite Fell to its back, is steady and has a great path. You then pop out at the back with a view over Sprinkling Tarn - which has the official title of the rainiest spot in England! The summit itself is undulating and can be boggy (although was frozen yesterday when I did it), and the Wainwright top is at the north most point, whilst the actual highest point is in the middle. Drop down to Styhead Tarn, with views up to the mighty Great Gable, and then circle back round to Stockley Bridge to retrace your steps down the valley back to the start. ⛰️ Seathwaite Fell (632m) ⏱️ Approx. 4.5 hrs 📈 630m 👣 8 miles 🚗 Road heading up to Seathwaite. Another traverse of the Aonach Eagach for @robert_mcskimming (9x now 😂) Always a belter of a day up there and even better when you get a sunset like this 🌅⠀ ⠀ Famed as the narrowest ridge on the British mainland (though Liathach and An Teallach must run it close), the Aonach Eagach gives a thrilling and spectacular traverse for keen and experienced scramblers, linking the Munros of Meall Dearg and Sgòrr nam Fiannaidh. The route is a grade 2/3 scramble and is included in some climbing guides as a 'Moderate' rock climb; it involves probably the trickiest scrambling on any Walkhighlands route. Ensure you have the necessary skills and experience, choose a dry day (the rocks are slippery when wet) and leave plenty of time to complete the route in daylight. Beautiful view looking over to Grasmoor from Mellbreak.⠀ ⠀ Looming over the Western shoreline of Crummock Water, Mellbreak is a distinctive feature of the landscape. It’s a nice stand-alone warm-up walk before attempting some of the taller fells in the region such as High Stile Ridge or Grasmoor, but it can also be combined with some of the Loweswater Fells behind.⠀ ⠀ There are various routes to the summit of Mellbreak, some easier than others. This means you can easily tailor your hike to your level of fitness and ability. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or a beginner, the views from the summit of the Buttermere Valley are absolutely incredible.
