‘I’d say all of us have a bit of a tummy!’ For Woman’s Hour’s Listener Week, listener Carole asked us to look at our relationship with tummies – and why we don’t celebrate them more. So to discuss this, @bbcnuala was joined by @lottiedrynan who created the IBS blog [Irritable Bowel Syndrome], The Tummy Diaries, and the hashtag #mybloatedwardrobe. Lottie told Nuala how she’s learned to love her rounded stomach and the pressures that society can place on this part of our bodies. Lottie joined Nuala alongside my two other guests: Dr Charlotte Boyce, Associate Professor in Victorian Literature and Culture at Portsmouth University, and columnist Pravina Rudra, who discussed the historical and cultural differences when it comes to our midriffs.  You can listen to the full discussion on @bbcsounds - it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 20 August 🎧 How do you feel about your tummy?💭 . . . #bbcwomanshour #womanshour

“what’s the bravest thing you’ve ever said?” asked the boy. “Help” said his mum. “Asking for help isn’t giving up, it’s refusing to give up.” - Charlie Mackesy This is the most vulnerable thing I’ve ever shared in my six years of being online but for the person who needs to see this; I hope this gives you hope. For the parent who’s feeling shame for not feeling how you imagined it would feel, I hope this helps you feel seen. And I promise, once that darkness lifts, even the littlest, most mundane moments can feel euphoric. You’ll feel like you’re doing everything for the first time, seeing everything for the first time and you’ll wonder whether this is how it was meant to be all along, or whether what you went through is what’s made it even more beautiful. I’ve tagged some incredible people, authors, podcasts and charities who gave me hope along my journey 🙏🏼 #postpartum #postpartumdepression #postpartumanxiety #birthtrauma #newmum #newparent #newparents #motherhood

does anything actually beat the feeling of a tit-tuck though? 👀 AD my morning routine is pretty simple these days, no ten stage wellness rituals or fancy Pilates, just trying to get through doing the best I can. But the one thing I will NEVER EVER be without is my daily shot of @symproveyourlife. That, and my boob tuck 😂 I first started taking Symprove nearly seven years ago and if I forget it for a few days they wheeew do I notice it! It helps my gut feel its best self which is needed more than ever in pregnancy, especially with these sickness meds that don’t help the whole 💩uation. I love that because it’s water based rather than tablet form, I can control how much I take meaning if I do need a little extra love, I just have a few extra swigs. I honestly couldn’t be without it and ADORE hearing how much you love it too. If you fancy giving @symproveyourlife a go you can use code LOTTIE50 for 50% off your first 12 weeks via Symprove.com/lottie 🦠

I spent a long time trying to fit in. Wondering why the “cool girl” outfits looked anything but cool on me. Why every time I tried hard to be something I wasn’t I moved further and further away from it. And y’know what - BORINGGGGG 😂 I made it in about 30 years in until I finally realised that it really is exhausting (and impossible) being anything but yourself and a few years later I can tell you that here a much happier place to be. Anyway, here’s my outfit that nobody else in the world owns as it’s made from recycled fabrics to fit MY body. So bloody cool (bought it from gorge small biz @loftyfrocks) • • sustainable handmade fashion, hand made dress, pregnancy friendly, comfortable clothing, uk size 12 to 14, maternity dress

one of the first outfits I’ve felt good in this year and one of those rare dresses that’s just SO easy to shove on, no matter the weather and no matter how your body feels that day (which also makes for a v bump-friendly look 🙌). Could easily team with tights and boots too but we all know my legs have no feeling when it comes to the cold, especially if it means I get to wear bow socks 🎀 All linked on my LTK ✨ • • #bloatfriendly #bumpstyle #comfortablefashion second trimester outfit, bloat friendly belly friendly uk size 12 14

Round-up of a very cute Galentine’s day date 💖 1. Matchy-matchy outfits 👯 2. A little trip to the @lego Le Florist pop-up in Covent Garden (ad/pr event) where we made each other our favourite flowers (zero watering required 😉) 3. Bright trainers are our love language 4. Two hopeless romantics, one aesthetic keepsake 5. Any excuse to play with Lego bricks and pass it off as a romantic gesture 6. Because nothing spells true love like aggressively trying to out-pout each other in public 7. Cute/mega talented buskers in Covent Garden 8. Lottie’s excited face as she came out the loo to a full string quartet 9. How we spend 90% of our time together. Who said romance was dead. Happy Galentines bestie! #advertisement #LEGOBotanicals

the orange vs blue 🥺 this happens every single time bar NONE. And every single time it serves as a powerful reminder that the way we look is the least important or interesting thing about us ♥️ #bodyimage #confidence #selfesteem

date night didn’t exactly go to plan but I did finally get to wear my gorgeous @loftyfrocks dress I bought at Christmas 😍 I’m gonna be honest, I’m finding this pregnancy WILDLY different to my first and I’m finding myself in this constant internal battle with such a heavy weight of guilt about it. The fact that last time I was dancing on chairs and painting ceilings until pretty much the second I popped and this time, some days just existing in my body feels like I’ve ran a frickin marathon. One with an *incredible* prize at the end but a marathon nonetheless. Anyway, the night ended up on the sofa by 7pm instead of the fancy dinner we booked. This was after visiting *three* different super markets because I really wanted potato skins and nowhere had them and the ones I did eventually find were actually really shit and I was kinda over it so I didn’t eat them 😂 so let this be a lesson that I’m only making plans that involve my tracksuit for the foreseeable
