We were honored to attend the FFSHC K9 Crisis Response class at this year’s FFCA Safety & Health Conference. This class brought awareness to the vital role of Peer Crisis Response K9s. These incredible dogs provide comfort and support to first responders during some of their most challenging moments, whether it’s in the aftermath of a disaster, a LODD , or the everyday traumas firefighters and paramedics face. Peer K9s can help bridge the gap, offering emotional relief before stress escalates into a crisis, helping to ensure first responders have the resilience they need to continue serving their communities. Always great to see other team members and meet new people .. We had the privilege to visit our dispatch this week. Police and fire dispatchers are often overlooked in emergency situations because their role is typically behind the scenes, making it less visible to the public. While police officers, firefighters, and paramedics are seen on the front lines responding to emergencies, dispatchers are the ones coordinating and directing those resources from a distance. This “invisible” work can lead to a lack of recognition. Additionally, their work may be perceived as administrative, even though it requires quick thinking, emotional resilience, and critical decision-making. Dispatchers manage high-pressure situations, provide life-saving instructions, and ensure that help reaches people in need, but the focus tends to be on those physically present at the scene. As a result, the public and even other emergency responders may unintentionally underappreciate their contributions but their actions do not go unnoticed. Always learning and training.. Kilo and I completed the PBSO Paws and Stripes program this week along with four other amazing K9 teams. I am proud to say they all passed and did awesome! 3 of the k9s are traveling back to Hamilton ,Ohio where they join their FD , one team is from North Miami PD and Kilo of course is with PBGFR.🚒🚑 Therapy K9s are a vital part of connecting with and helping first responders and community during traumatic events. We look forward to being able to bring some peace and puppy kisses to whoever is in need.🐶❤️ One of the best parts of this class is all the dogs are rescues!!
