Day 2 in Mumbai and Day 1 of the workshop with @rishikayoga - great fun in the morning followed by a super engaging podcast with @dimplejangdaofficial and then our Saturday @yogaeducationcollective online training to finish off the day. Special shout out to @yogaprasad_institute and @anirudh_gupta1 for stopping by the workshop and @mickey_mehta for hosting our panel. This reel goes out to @pragathiguru for the inspo and not to @shrutibramadesam for telling me I’m a horrible influencer. Which of course I am. I can barely influence myself.

“Listen - Now when you can see that death can come at anytime, Don’t be lazy. There’s no time to lose. Study, learn, and meditate. You will see that everything is the Buddha. Now you are a human being. Don’t get lost.” This is a part of a translation by @laurieandersonofficial of a Buddhist teaching called Between Birth and Death and Death and Rebirth. She gave me a copy just before I left for India in September and I’ve been meditating on it since then. With the passing of Sharath Ji, this teaching has takes on an even greater immediacy. In our grief, we often take action; actions to pray, to remember, to recalibrate, and to honor. It’s part of the grieving process. We also naturally reflect on our lives, and the shortness of our lives and our loved ones. We often make changes. This poem is a reminder. Remember the love that is felt in this moment, and carry it forward into an active remembrance: don’t get lost. Stay aware. Be present. What has loss made you realize or recognize about your life, or your life with others, that makes you want to change something or rededicate yourself? Drop it in the chat below 🫶🏼 Art by @alexrvillon Laurie’s co-translators are Benjamin Bogen and Dominique Townsend

Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois, 1971-2024. These photos are a tiny snippet of 32 years of friendship and studentship. Jocelyne, Sharath and I, like many others, shared a life beyond yoga over the past 32 years. We saw each other married, have kids, experienced the death of loved ones, grown, and seen the small room in Lakshmipuram, largely under his guidance, expand to embrace the world. Sharath was a teacher and guide for untold thousands of students, and brought joy and comfort to many. His dedication was unparalleled. He leaves us far too soon, and far too quickly. Sharath Ji, may you travel safely to the next world and beyond. You will be missed. You will not be forgotten. 💔

When you do something to bring stillness to your mind with your body, it’s called asana. When you do something to bring stillness to your mind with your breath, it’s called pranayama. When you do something to bring stillness to your mind with your mind, it’s called meditation. Art by @alexrvillon word by me from an upcoming book. Train for resilience. Don’t bounce back, bounce up. Friendship and kindness are some of our greatest strengths. Equilibrium of mind is the highest yoga.
