I have some fun news! I’m BEYOND thrilled, surprised and proud that my little zine about a chubby and precocious 10 year old (it’s not me at all) and her love of horses and art made it into the dPictus Unpublished Picturebook Showcase 6! Thank you @picturebookmakers for including Horse Girl and thank you to the jury of publishers who took the time and energy to review all the projects. This is very exciting to me and all the other book makers included in the showcase. Congrats to all! Woo hoo! To see all the projects selected go to dpictus.com/unpublished #dpictus #picturebookmakers #graphicnovel #horsegirl #picturebookshowcase6 #middlegradebooks #80s #horselovers

I 💯 channeled my rage for this months print and wanted to create a painting that feels triumphant and ready for battle in lieu all the greedy garbage people in our corrupt government. Most of us know that in order for us to thrive and evolve as a healthy society the patriarchy must die. We have to keep pushing for our rights and let our voices be heard. During covid I worked on a book called Goddess: 50 Goddesses, Spirits, Saints, and Other Female Figures Who Have Shaped Belief with Nosy Crow (which some of you own so thank you! ) Ever since then I’ve been wanting to explore goddess’s more in my personal work. This seemed like the perfect time to do it. I fell especially in love with the Hindu goddess’s Kali & Durga. Kali is associated with destruction, death, time, and rebirth yet she’s is also a symbol of motherhood, fertility, and creativity. Conflicting but also...I get it. Dynamic women are complicated. ;) Durga is a symbol of power, protection, and motherhood. She is also a major aspect of the divine mother, or Devi. The two combined felt like a super goddess. Things feel horrible right now so this is my way of casting a visual spell of protective power around all my peoples. ❤️ There are 50 of these prints available. THANK YOU to all my patrons who have signed up so far! I appreciate your support more than I can say. If you want these goodies in your mailbox, go to my p@treon and sign up by March 31 11:59 pm CST. Early last spring I was approached by Barefoot Books to do this book & full disclosure, I was hesitant at first. But after reading Joëlle’s lovely manuscript & hearing more of her vision, I wanted to be a part of it. The USA is the only home I’ve ever known & as complex as my feelings are, I love this place. So I said yes. Once the book was finally finished, I felt really proud of what we all created together. But I wasn’t sure how to tell people about it. The words felt sticky. *_* & as we all know, things continued to escalate in our country. Currently our democracy is on the line and as I’m writing this, I still don’t know exactly what to say. But in the most simplest of terms, I’ll just say that this joyful little book is made for people with chubby little hands (toddlers only, no dictators) that want to learn more about the beautiful people & places that make up this country. Today is officially pub day so I’m digging in & saying those sticky words that have been eluding me. When it’s all said & done, I stand by this book. A book that reflects all of the good people of this country. And by gaaahdddd there are SO many good & hard working people here that are fighting for equality for all, not just for some. Every page is bursting with their love, kindness, diversity, equity & inclusion because that’s just how the best of us roll here in the USA. My feelings are still complex for this country but not for its citizens. I LOVE Americans. Well, most of them. Ok…half of them. Just kidding. (In whisper voice..”not really”) 🫠 So happy birthday little book. Let’s hope you’re one of many many steps towards a brighter future that our kids so rightfully deserve. Thank you to my editor Lisa Rosinsky, @barefootbooks for your guidance and to Joëlle Retener, for your beautiful vision and words. Shot out to my dog Lucy for being my emotional support dog while making this reel. 🐶 This book is available where all fine books are sold.

*************************************************Art is resistance!!!!!!!!!!!! ************************************************* That’s just about all the caption I can muster due to the season finale of Severance, last nights White Lotus, going to two grocery stores to get eggs, people not being let into the county because of any-Trump content on their phone, a student being held prisoner in the US because of his beliefs, people being shipped off to a dank overseas prison with no due process, Israel bombing innocent palestinian civilians again, lighting a Tesla on fire deems you a domestic terrorist but killing kids at school with an AR 15 is fine and 20 other horrific things going down in this last 50 days. It’s all brewin’ together and making a huge pot of “WTF stew” in my brain today and nothings really making sense. None of this is N O R M A L. We CANNOT Normalize this. We must NOT become numb. Let’s keep calling, boycotting, protesting, fighting, making art, and speaking out. I will if you will. We can do this. They can’t win. There is too much at stake. I love you all. 🩷 🦁 🗡️ Okaaaaay….well I guess that was the real caption. 🤷🏼♀️ Blurg…🫠 Sign up with the p@treon link in my profile or in my stories before March 31st 11:59 pm CST Go get in this 5x7 post card print in the mail. I’ll send some positive energy along with it. 🩷

It’s time for another live draw. ✍️ We enjoyed the dogs and vintage ladies last time so this month cats are getting a turn! (a big yay to that because I find Cats easier to draw *_* ) These images continue to be a mood & I can’t get enough. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I detect a hint of rebelliousness in most of the images I’m finding. It’s subtle but it’s there. Maybe it’s because they’re just existing for themselves the moment the photo was captured ? They look free & happy to be with their animals. 🐈 I can’t wait to draw them with you. :) Via a group zoom we’ll reference a collection of images I hand selected, starting with three 5 minute warm up studies, then two 10 minute drawings / paintings, ending on a 20 minute drawing/ painting so we can dig into the detail and zone out for a bit. Remember ALL PAID TIERS are welcome, so don’t be shy! We make wonky drawings in this live draw. These sessions are about the simple act OF drawing & showing up for yourself creatively, NOT perfection. Tuesday, MARCH 25, 12:00 PM CST It’s $5 to join in at www.patreon.com/sarahwalsh Hope to see you there 🩷 meow 🐱

In honor of World Book Day I thought it would be fun to do a *COVER REVEAL* We’re All In This Together written by Ernie Young and illustrated by yours truly. 😊 An incredibly inclusive and lyrical book about community and kindness that shows how much stronger we are when we work together. Available for pre-order now at @bookshop_org Pub date September 23, 2025. Thank you @littlebeebooks for this wonderful opportunity to illustrate so many different kinds of folks, all supporting and loving one another. Holy smokes do we need that more than ever right now. We build the world we want to see and in order to do that sometimes we need to be willing to speak out and stand up for change. Thank you to my AD @stephstilwell and ED Brett Duquette for being so lovely to work with. And to my amazing agent Catherine Bradshaw @writershouseagency I’m proud of this little board book and it’s important message. I can’t wait to share more of it soon. 🌈🩷

We’ve seen all the economic black out memos. It’s almost time. These CEO’s only care if it affects their bottom line. But we need something different. LET’S BOYCOTT THE GREEDY MEGA CORPS… SHOP SMALL! SHOP LOCAL! SUPPORT ARTISTS, MAKERS & SMALL BUSINESSES! THEY NEED US & WE NEED THEM. Sorry for all the all caps but I’m AMPED! It’s time for another live draw. ✍️ Let’s doodle our evil cheeto stresses away ;) for bit and go back in time to sketch fancy ladies and their pups. These images are a mood and honestly healing to look at. The women are proud and happy in the moment, not to mention it’s fun to draw old timey hair styles and clothing. Via a group zoom we’ll reference a collection of images I hand selected, starting with three 5 minute warm up studies, then two 10 minute drawings / paintings, ending on a 20 minute drawing/ painting so we can dig into the detail and zone out for a bit. In case you’re like me and are desperate for some color with these black and white photos I posted some fun somewhat limited color palettes on my p@treon in case you want to use them. THURSDAY FEB 27th 12:00 PM CST It’s $5 to join in at www.patreon.com/sarahwalsh Hope to see you there 🩷 woof 🐶

A little behind the scenes vid for an editorial piece I created for Flow magazine last year. Can you guess that the article was about? 😉I painted this in the dead of winter at my kitchen table and it was a joy. Thank you @flow_magazine

Meet Sarah! One of the many talented artists we work with to create our awesome stuff. Sarah Walsh is an internationally published illustrator and a mom of two humans and a dog. Music, plants, folk art, the ‘80s, thrifting, bold color, fashion, mid-century design, strong women, old picture books and mythology inform her work.

A little behind the scenes vid of how I created February’s mini postcard print, sticker and bonus bookmark. 😊 I always start with a little scribbly doodle in my sketchbook. I keep it small so I don’t fuss over the details. Then it’s time for the paint. My favorite part. When I first started out as an illustrator / designer I was completely digital and pretty unfamiliar with conventional materials. My degree is in design so I’m a self taught illustrator / painter. Through trial and error I learned about conventional materials through curiosity and my passion for making a mess. 😂 My favorite materials are @holbeinartistmaterials acrylic and water based gouache and @prismacolor colored pencils. Books are the theme because, well, I ❤️ them. :) And February is the perfect time to hibernate, get cozy and hunker down with a good book. To learn more about my process or receive these goodies in the mail go to patreon.com/sarahwalsh and sign up by February 28 11:59 pm. Thanks for watching! 🩷
