Always back and forth with visual journaling, sometimes it’s second nature and sometimes it’s grueling. In any case, every filled sketchbook I own is full of only a handful of share-worthy drawings. The rest is writing, scribbles, or ‘uglies’ which I know are not ugly but never feel lovely enough to share. Today though I dug through my archives and shared a host of never before seen sketches on Patreon ❤️ Do you keep a regular sketchbook practice? Are you like me..diving in and out?

I was filing through archived work to put together a post and I came across this goodie from @sytheauthor’s Becoming A Good Creature. These times feel so heavy, for people but also for this planet we call home. For the littlest and biggest creatures and all the ones in between who depend on our acknowledgment and care. I’m grateful for people like Sy and everyone working tirelessly to take care of our world, especially as ‘leaders’ deny science, cut resources for our national parks, value profit above all, and spread ignorance about our shared humanity.

Life lately. Snow and home renovations and simple meals and Mori. Always Mori. Today I shared a peek into my recent visual journaling sketchbook (where I cut these little images from). You can find it (and more) in The Dessert Club Patreon. 🩵 Happy Friday friends!

Biggest thanks to @andyjpizza and the whole team at Creative Pep Talk for having me on the podcast (again!) It’s an honor to be guest - especially twice - this time to share something so close to my heart. We talk about grief and how it can derail our creative lives. We chat about being an artist while also being human and every beautiful and messy thing that that entails. And also, how to maybe let a little magic and joy find you when you’re in your darkest days. ✨ Thanks Andy, for giving me a space to share my story. And for anyone navigating grief while also having to be a person, my heart goes out to you. 🤍 Give it a listen at the link in my bio ^

Such an honor to have my work in MOE! @moe_web Endless gratitude for the folks at MOE Magazine for inviting me to collaborate in their recent Christmas Issue. I got to illustrate my favorite Christmas memory from childhood (decorating the tree with my family) and to celebrate what I love about Christmas now with Matty and little Mori. (And this is the first time I can remember being hired for a sketchbook page, which was so fun to do!) Swipe through to see behind the scenes, the final, and my sweet mama and us in the 90’s :) If you want to see more - like sketches and materials or learn what it’s like to work on a dreamy editorial project, I detailed the whole process in a recent Patreon post. (Sign up at the link in bio). A fun little note to this project - I used all the colors from my @holbein_art set + Luminous Red to highlight and celebrate my love and appreciation for Japan. 🇯🇵❤️ Super thanks to everyone at MOE including my very kind art director for being such a joy to work with!

Hello sweet loves ❄️ I’ve been living in a whirlwind of dummy books, home renovations, and new city settlings and have pretty much turned 1000% inwards. This means I’ve been super quiet here and everywhere and while that feels scary not ‘keeping up’ its also nice to take a step back from everything. I am diligently hard at work in my studio though, sketching, painting, and finishing as many books as I have fingers on one hand. If you’re in my Patreon, you’ll also see this work in progress as I share studies, sketchbook pages, and process. One of the videos I recently shared there was the process behind this new study ‘Fireside.’ We dive into compositional sketches, the line sketch, transferring on a light box, color testing, and painting + inking the final. I hope everyone’s doing well, despite it all, for there’s always something but especially now. Sending my brightest to you. 🤍 (And maybe I’ll see you around here a little bit more? Maybe not? Maybe somewhere else? Idk! Always the social media conundrum.)

Happy Friday friends. 🤍 Hope it finds you warm and nestled. This little acrylic gouache painting uses colors from my 12 Color Set with @holbein_art and was painted on Fabriano hot pressed paper. Swipe to see the color test, and better yet, head to Patreon if you want to see the whole thing being painted. T’was the coziest thing to paint!

It’s BACK! 🎉 So happy to share that my 12 Color Set of Acrylic Gouache is making its way to art supply shelves once again. This collaboration previously sold out twice but will now be available as a regular set! The Box Set is the same lovely one, save a couple logo refreshes and the cutest little tops. The collection includes Vermillion, Coral Red, Mustard, Emerald Green, Sap Green, Pale Aqua, Smalt Blue, Ash Yellow, Ash Blue, Burnt Sienna, Sepia, and Gold. I suggest adding a Primary or Super Opaque White to make the range really versatile. This set would be great if you are trying Acrylic Gouache for the first time, if you have a set of primaries you’re looking to expand…or, if you’re a seasoned painter with plenty of colors! Check with your local art supply store to find a set near you, or contact Holbein to inquire about ordering. I’ll link to some resources in my stories as well! Super grateful to @holbein_art for asking me to curate a collection and have my work celebrated on the box set. It’s such an honor. Keep your eyes peeled midweek as we’ll be giving away two new sets! ⚡️

It’s November and I’m cozied up in my studio this Saturday working on a sweet editorial Christmas illustration and packing up orders of this fresh wintry print. It’s hard to choose between Fall and Winter this time of year - to cling to Autumn or get swept away in the twinkle of the upcoming Holidays but this year I’m not choosing. I’m leaning into both, and letting the days lead the way. 🍂❄️ If you’re feeling ready for Winter, I have a fresh print in my shop, Winter’s Eve (which literally I just realized IS November!) I painted it for a group exhibition at @arthouse_horie Osaka, Japan in 2019 when I was nostalgic for the pink afternoon skies of Michigan winters. 🤍 Available now in my shop - just follow the link up top! BEST BOO! T’was the best Halloween gift to see these snippets from The Jim Henson Company’s new adaptation of How To Make Friends With A Ghost 🕸️ Aren’t Bellis and her Ghost the sweetest!? What’s more is that she’s not alone in having a ghost friend, for everyone in Boosboro has one. This lovely series is in the works and all my fingers and toes are crossed that this one comes to life. Huge gratitude to Halle, Kait, Ashley, and the team at @hensoncompany for bringing this little book to life and for believing in the unseen possibilities 🕯️ If you want to see more scenes, I’m sharing more gems in tomorrow’s monthly newsletter as well as a write up in Kidscreen. 🍂 Sign up in the link in bio to get all the good stuff. Eeeee!!!

A little pumpkin carving treasure I drew last year but did not share until today 💛 Last night I carved pumpkins with @ginniehsu…her first time carving them! And my first time in years. What a dream! Swipe through to see the little drawing in process and at the end, find the halloweeniest pic of all our pumpkins that Ginnie took last night! If you want to dive in a little more and nerd out on colors and art materials for the illustration, you can find the full post in The Dessert Club Patreon 🎃 Happy Monday my loves 🕸️
