Our lower basecamp Forest Kindergarteners engaged in a lot of creativity play today. One of our kindergartners noticed our walnut ink was empty and took it upon himself to find walnuts, crush them, add water and try to make more. Today our Nature Explorers Engaged in dramatic play based off of a favorite video game. They created a game with Pokemon and kitties. They made their kitty home by digging in the mud pile. They were able to test different materials for building such as mid, diet, sticks, and using wet tree bark to make rope. 🌳 Adventure Time with our Forest School Kindergarteners and Nature Explorers!🌲 We had the best time venturing out on a couple of mini excursions to a nearby trail! The kiddos ran wild, weaving in and out of each other, full of energy and excitement. 🏃‍♂️💨 Along the way, some sharp-eyed explorers found critters hiding in the dirt. Can you spot them just as fast as they did? The highlight of the day? 🌬️🍃 Our Forest School kiddos braved the cool, windy day with a hike to the meadow, where they discovered along the way, nature’s treasures—gumballs, pinecones, and pine needles! By the time we reached the meadow, everyone was cozy despite the chill. The windy, sunny weather was perfect for testing what sinks and floats in the lake—leaves, sticks, or rocks? 🌿💧 The kids had a blast balancing and running across rocks at their own pace, adventuring through tall grass, and hiding in the woodland. One group found a dead tree and worked together to haul it all the way back to our pick-up spot. 🪵 It was amazing to witness their problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. We enjoyed our first snow day at Piedmont Forest School! Our kindergartners traced their footprints, ate snow, threw snowballs, played games and warmed up next to the fire with a cup of hot cocoa. First day back from fall break, and we came back to winter! A crisp 30-something degree morning made for a slow start, but it was beautiful to watch. From Forest Kindergarteners getting creative with their hiding spots in Hide and Seek, to some just taking it slow and soaking in their surroundings, it was a peaceful way to ease back into the rhythm. By the end of the day, I think those Fall break blues were finally shaken off! We are looking forward to more chilly mornings ahead this week. Our Piedmont Forest School Kindergartners started the day with "sit spots". This was the perfect opportunity for our kiddos to focus not just on observing their surroundings but also noticing what it is like for them to be there. They journaled rocks, acorns, roots, wood, trees, the Basecamp, a branch that fell, and the wind. During their journaling, one kiddo asked, "what made the tree fall?". We were also able to focus on our senses and dive deep into what we smelled, felt, heard and saw. Then they built forts working together to move and arrange large branches. They played games, balanced on logs, made a see saw, busted open rocks to find quartz and observed leaves. 🌿 Today at Forest School, the woods were alive with creativity in all forms! While some of our Nature Explorers and Forest Kindergarteners focused on building shelters, others found inspiration in quiet moments of solo creativity or collaborated with friends. Whether it was writing, painting, drawing, or diving into imaginative play, the forest was the perfect backdrop for letting creativity flow. 🎨✏️ There’s something magical about being in nature—where the possibilities are endless and the only limit is your imagination.
