Signs of reflux in infants can be subtle and aren’t always limited to spitting up! Some other common signs include frequent irritability or crying during or after feeding, arching back, poor weight gain, excessive hiccups, coughing, or even refusing to eat. These symptoms can often be mistaken for colic or fussiness, but they may be signs of reflux. Tips to Help Improve Symptoms at Home: 1. Keep baby upright: Hold your baby in an upright position for 20-30 minutes after feeding to help food settle and reduce the chance of acid coming back up. 2. Feed smaller amounts more frequently: Offering smaller, more frequent feedings can reduce the load on your baby’s tummy, making it easier to digest and reducing the likelihood of reflux. 3. Burp often: Burp your baby several times during and after each feeding to release any trapped air that could contribute to discomfort or pressure on their stomach. If these tips don’t improve symptoms, or if you notice other concerning signs like poor weight gain or breathing difficulties, consult with your doctor to discuss potential treatments. Early intervention can make a big difference! #InfantReflux #NewParentTips #BabyHealth #PediatricCare Did your baby have reflux? What symptoms did they have?

Practicing putting babies down drowsy but awake can be huge - obviously it takes some practice. It puts less pressure on us as parents when it comes to the transfer into the crib (We no longer have to break our backs and arms to try and get them in there without waking them at all since he’s already awake!) We follow the schedule from the @momsoncall book for the most part - bedtime is about 30 mins later than what the book calls for but it has been working. #newborn #firsttimemom #nighttimeroutine #newbornroutine #babyroutine

Babies nurse not only for calories but to help them calm down and to settle down to sleep. Introducing a pacifier and using it instead of nursing can mean instead of signaling your supply to keep up, milk is not being removed and your supply can be affected over time. Swaddling does result in the baby sleeping for longer stretches some of the time and is another disruption to how often they will naturally wake to feed. Always feed your baby before offering a pacifier to know they are nice and satisfied from your milk if you wish to not nurse them to sleep for comfort. Swaddling has been shown to dampen the baby’s natural patterns of waking meaning it can cause longer stretches of sleep which may interfere with how often they nurse and mom’s milk supply.
