Another pen run dry after months of daily offerings to my sanity. How does anybody understand their thoughts and feelings without writing them down? It’s a mystery to me. I’d be lost without my journal, who’s always up for a listen, never judges or interrupts or reaches for its cell phone. And the pen, well, the pen is a grounding rod for the invisible stream of ideas, ponderings, prayers, plans and lists, that I assume would just pass me by without it. What shall I do with this empty vessel? It feels like an insult to toss it in the trash. Maybe I’ll use to make a… a what? This line of thinking may be how people become hoarders. I guess the best thing to do is say thank you to the slender, patient thing and everyone and everything involved in its existence and presence in my hand. The abundance of pens is an underrated perk of modern times. I’ll keep it, I think.

One of the most powerful things we can do in these times is create places for deep listening, for remembrance, for dreaming new dreams.
