My HG story is one of perseverance and alignment with my values. When I heard the only way to manage this condition was with medication’s, I knew I had some work to do. So many moms in their first pregnancy don’t know that HG is not the same as morning sickness and that the suffering their experiencing is not normal. They may not get support from their care team as not all doctors are aware of HG. “I understand you’re worried, but your baby is a parasite—they’ll leach off you for everything they need.” These were the words spoken to me by a male doctor as I lay in a hospital bed, severely dehydrated, after throwing up 30+ times that day. I wasn’t just worried about my baby’s health—I was terrified for my own too! 🎙️ I just got off a podcast interview, and something that came up really struck me: the conversation about what’s considered ‘normal.’ (P.S. thanks for the chat @alycaffrey) “Your blood work is normal” is something many of us hear, but what they’re really saying is, “You’re falling in line with the health metrics of everyone aged 18-75 in America.” Does that version of normal feel good to you? Or is it time we aim for something better than what’s considered common—and often, far from optimal? Motherhood brings this into sharp focus. Every day, moms are inundated with advice: “Do this. Don’t do that.” It creates this overwhelming noise where fear takes over, leaving us second-guessing every decision. But what if we silenced the noise? What if we leaned into our gut, trusted our own voice, and listened to the instincts we’ve had all along? When you do that—just a little more every day—your entire experience begins to shift. This came up for me recently as I kept seeing the endless “Just give them Tylenol” advice for everything. My gut said, “Wait.
