#Repost @yournaturallearner ・・・ Your child does not owe anyone an explanation for how they spend their time. 👏🏼 So many adults are conditioned to believe that a child’s only job in life is to be in school that they literally don’t know how to talk to children. 😫“Shouldn’t you be in school?” 😣“What grade are you in?” 😩“What are you learning right now?” 😒“What do you want to be when you grow up?” 😤Or my personal favorite: “What did you learn today?” What did YOU learn today, Adult?! Are we holding ourselves to the same standard we expect of our children? How about leading adult conversations like this: 😙“What’s your next career move?” 🤓“Are you doing well at your job?” 😎“How’s your boss feel about your work performance lately?” 🤗“Shouldn’t you be at work right now?” Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? Your child doesn’t owe these questions an answer. And neither do you. Come up with a handful of basic responses that will shut down or pivot those conversations when they come up. Some examples: 👉🏼“Oh, we homeschool and just enjoy learning through life.” 👉🏼You can reframe the question so your child wants to answer, like “Wasn’t that fun when we went to the science museum yesterday?” 👉🏼You can even tell your child, “you don’t have to answer that” to show them that they don’t have to justify their time! Help your child set those boundaries and change the narrative. Ask children about things they CARE about!! 🦓Like what their favorite wild animal is 👀The coolest thing they’ve seen this week 🦸🏽‍♀️Their favorite superhero 📱What video game they love to play 🌈What color their bedroom walls are (or what color they WISH they were) Remember: Children are people too. We cannot struggle with something we do not care about and are not fully prepared to do yet based on our natural development. Are some 5 year olds ready to read? Of course. Are most of them? No. Pressuring them through forced practice, stress, and performance only creates negative feelings about it, causing more issues when they ARE developmentally ready.

I found @radically.unschooling page and her quotes and knowledge are absolute gold, so if you’re on the fence with homeschooling or just fed up with the public school system, be sure to follow her for the push you need. We went through two public schools in two years. I watched as my child who had flourished for 5 years at home, fell behind. And I watched her spirit break in two as she realized kids are absolute bullies. The absolute sweetest soul in a child I’ve ever known, and it was being ruined. I used to think (before I had kids) how cool it would be to homeschool. But it was a dream and one I “knew” would never be possible or feasible for us. Yet here we are. Because as a mom, I knew I had to fight for this. The last year I’ve gotten to watch her personality shine once again. I get to watch her wake up and excited for a new day. I get to spend my mornings snuggled up with a baby on each side and relish in these slow moments. Other peoples kids don’t get to influence my children negatively. My child doesn’t have to wonder if she’s loved or cared for. And she’s safe and secure, always. This is the life we’ve fought SO hard for. Grateful doesn’t even begin to touch what I’m feeling. Did you know… Natural learning happens without forcing kids to sit still and be quiet. Kids learn in many different ways… Most of the best learning happens when there is movement involved! Keep your kids moving throughout the day and their brains will be stimulated!

#Repost @radically.unschooling ・・・ For me it was quite simple. 👇🏼 I was fed up with having to answer to someone about schoolwork, attendance, grades and everything else that comes with it (especially in the hight of C0vid). Always somekind of superior overhead, overly invested in how my kids were doing and ready to throw lables and their “we know best” vibes at us. Initially we were going to do this temporarily for a few months, until the end of the school year and put them back when things “blow over”. Now months have turned into years and we’ve never looked back. It took me a good while to do the research on what type of homeschoolers we wanted to be, how it would look like and all the things we would do. I quickly realized that we go with the flow most of the time. We went through seasons of different interests. Coercion and bribing didn’t work at all on my kids. The moment I heard the word “Unschooling”, I was hooked. I knew this was the one. It’s like it was calling my name. Considering all of our personalities, our family dynamics, our beliefs and rebellious spirits, unschooling was like the shoe that fits. 👠 When you know, you just know. 🤷🏼‍♀️ What was your experience with getting into unschooling?
