What was i thinking when i initially thought i didn't want to do a prenatal shoot. I'm so glad i did, thanks to everyone who adviced me do it, friends and strangers alike. It feels like yesterday when I held my little Skyla for the first time, and now she’s approaching her second birthday! 2024 has blessed us with so many precious milestones – from Skyla’s magical first birthday to those wobbly first steps and heart-melting first words. But what truly warms my heart is watching the beautiful bond blossom between my daughters as they grow together. As any mother knows, nothing tests our hearts more than seeing our little ones unwell. It took me 20 months to finally admit - transitioning to being a mother of two was emotionally more challenging than I ever expected. The day before I delivered, I was overwhelmed with unexpected tears. I knew our lives were about to change forever. The thought of no longer having that precious, undivided time with my firstborn was heartbreaking. What followed was a constant series of adjustments, each stage presenting its own unique challenges. I found myself delegating care of Skyla to others. Instead of spending quality time with her, I focused on other tasks - taking Layla out, washing dishes, cooking, meeting friends, etc. Unconsciously, I was avoiding connection. When Skyla cried, her tears felt overwhelming, and I found myself more frustrated than I ever had with Layla. I initially attributed these feelings to the challenges of being a mother of two, but in reality, I was struggling to connect with her. I am grateful for my husband’s understanding. Recognizing my reservations, he didn’t judge or pressure me. Instead, he devoted his time to caring for Skyla, allowing me the space to navigate my emotions. Twenty months later, I can finally say that I love Skyla deeply. I genuinely enjoy with, no comparison, no obligations. She is such a quirky little child. Their characters are so vastly different, but unique and loving in their own way. I did not expect that it will take me this long to ‘see & love’ my own baby, but this was my journey. To mothers experiencing similar feelings: Know that these emotions are more common than you realize. We are only human. Stop beating yourself up with guilt. You will find your way to love, and when it comes, it will be so profound that you’ll hardly remember the struggle. Be patient with yourself. Don’t judge your journey.
