📢 BIG NEWS incoming... As a team we have been working around the clock to launch the new version of LITTLEWINE - www.littlewine.io — as we're building the world's winemaker-led knowledge platform. For too long, access to first-hand & engaging wine information has been in the hands of a lucky few, and discovering what lies in a bottle of wine has been a painful online search odyssey. At LITTLEWINE, we reimagine this experience and ultimately seek to democratise the access to wine knowledge, experience and education globally. Winemakers can now use our platform (for free) to seamlessly communicate about their stories, philosophies, cuvées and vineyards on a global level. We strive to empower winemakers to maintain their own narratives, saving them critical time and enabling them to overcome the sea of misinformation that exists online — vintage by vintage. Wine professionals & winelovers will soon be able to subscribe to the platform to learn about the people, places and philosophies behind the wines they enjoy and work with — directly from the winemakers — one wine at a time. We're on the mission to bring the global wine ecosystem closer together, and are incredibly grateful for everybody's support on this journey thus far. To be the first to find out about news & developments, please sign up to our WAITLIST via the link in our bio. We can't wait to reveal more. 💚🌱 P.S. On Instagram, be prepared for more behind the scenes and from the vineyards & cellars content from some of the world's most inspiring winemakers globally. We'll take you [wine] places — virtually. #wine #littlewine #goodvinesonly #wineeducation

Where does our wine come from? How is it made? Why does it taste the way it does? & crucially: what do we want our wine to be; to represent? In the third condensed snippet of our trilogy with Nicolas Joly of @couleedeserrant, we hear him delve into the complexities that tie conventional viticulture to conventional winemaking — and agrochemical companies to companies that produce additions for winemaking. 🔗 Watch the full documentary by heading to the link in our bio 💚🌱 #biodynamics #biodynamicwine #organicwine #wine #wineeducation #nicolasjoly #couleedeserrant

To kickstart 2025 with some deeply meaningful and inspiring education, we’ll be featuring a few snippets from our documentary with Nicolas Joly of @couleedeserrant [🔗 in bio for full feature]. To say that Nicolas has been one of our current era’s most notable people in the quest to return to a greener form of viticulture would be an understatement. He was one of the first people to embrace the biodynamic approach for wine, and he has been a pivotal figure in spreading the word and knowledge behind this way of farming, inspiring many to embrace this path. This is just a short segment on the importance that animals play in soil and plant health, and indeed for wine and the very notion of appellations. Watch the documentary to learn more from this deeply thoughtful and kind person on a mission for a healthier planet. 💚🌱 #wine #nicolasjoly #lacouleedeserrant #biodynamic #biodynamicwine #farmanimals #organicfarming #wineeducation

Take a trip with us through the Reynard and Chaillot vineyards of Cornas with Th. Allemand (Th. standing for both Thierry and Theo @thallemand). Creating his first vintage in 1982, Thierry Allemand was joined by his son Theo in 2017. Having learnt the winemaking and farming ropes with domaines in the Rhône (such as Chave and Clape), in the Jura (with Pierre Overnoy) and in Australia (with Sami-Odi), Theo continues his father’s pioneering work, bringing his own dedication and thoughtfulness to these astonishing sites, implementing mulching, for example, to help the soils retain moisture and lower temperatures in hot recent summers. As for the cellar work, the wines are tasting just as thrilling as ever. These are simply some of the most striking, emotional examples of Syrah, and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Theo. Bravo 👏🌱💚 #cornas #wine #allemand #reynard #chaillot #syrah

At LITTLEWINE, we love to champion the work of everybody who works to tend their land with great care — human beings and horses alike. 🐴 This is a snippet from a short film we shot with @christoph_hoch a while back, featuring Julie Hoch and the equine force behind several of Austria’s vineyards, Mika - a Noriker draft horse, owned and loved by Matthias Weiländer @zugpferdematthiasweilaender. Welcome to @thibaud.cl’s Volnay* 1er Cru ‘en Champans,’ ‘Clos du Verseuil’ (a monopole) and Clos des Angles (the most recent addition to his holdings). It’s very inspiring to see how much has developed here since his beginnings in 2015; both in farming and winemaking. Thibaud began farming organically in 2019, and ploughs some plots by horse. He has also adjusted his winemaking style, now working with a delicate touch; no punchdowns, just pumpovers if needed. He (similarly to @benjamin.benoit_ in our last post), has also been rethinking viticulture. He started by converting his ‘en Champans’ to échalas — although it takes around double the amount of time to tend the plot in this manner, he is really encouraged by the results. He explains, “By letting the apex fall naturally, the vine expresses itself more. It produces more aerated bunches this way, and smaller berries. It also regulates the yield to between 25ha - 30ha naturally, and I think 30 is the perfect balance for our Pinots, else they can become too dilute.” He spends many hours in the vines. Whether it’s a grand cru vineyard, or a Bourgogne vineyard, he puts the same amount of effort into farming them: each vineyard deserves the same level of love, and respect. These are such bright, focused, pure and expressive wines that give clear expressions of their sites, with a sensitive and driven young talent at the helm. We can’t wait to see what the future will hold. * sorry for the video autocorrect spelling mishap 🤦🏼‍♀️ #thibaudclerget #domaineyvonclerget #yvonclerget #burgundy #burgundywine #wine #volnay

Take a trip through the seasons of the Jura via the magical vineyards of @benjamin.benoit_. We were fortunate to visit Benjamin in Pupillin not once but twice this year — in July, and then again in October. Benjamin took over the 6.25ha of his family domaine in 2019. Since, he has embraced organic viticulture (alongside sulphur and copper, he also sprays talcum powder, which helps with dew, and orange oil), but he doesn’t stop there: he is a deep thinker, and one of the hardest workers we’ve met. Working to find a form of viticulture that respects his vines and which can handle an ever-uncertain climate, he has been converting his vineyards to a higher training method, which provides the grapes with more shade in challenging vintages, provides his vineyards with more air flow—thereby reducing disease pressure—and which permits him to arch the vines onto one another, meaning he can avoid cutting the apex. He says, “in my first lesson in viticulture, when I was 14, they explained to me that the vine was a liana. But you can’t even imagine that when you’re in most of the vineyards of Burgundy. Maybe we’ve misunderstood the vine from the beginning…? The vine doesn’t make grapes for human beings. We need to think more about its natural state, it gets very stressed when you cut it. It’s like you cut part of its brain; when it’s stressed it also can’t protect itself against disease.” It’s food for thought… and if the health of his vineyards and his extraordinary wines are anything to go by (this is a man so dedicated to his terroirs that he makes SIX single vineyard Ploussards!), we think he’s onto an incredible future path for these special vineyards. #wine #jura #jurawine #viticulture #celliersaintbenoit #benjaminbenoit

The Library Vineyard, @turleywine, Napa Valley — Welcome to one of California’s most unique vineyards and a true ampelographic treasure. Established between 1880(!) and 1920, directly behind the St. Helena Public Library, this little urban vineyard is home to 26 varieties, all planted as bush vines, and organically farmed without irrigation. Predominantly Petite Syrah, there are also black varieties such as Peloursin, Cinsault, Syrah, Mission, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Carignan, Grenache and Zinfandel. There’s even white and pink grapes here, such as Muscat of Alexandria, Muscadelle, Burger (aka Monbadon), Green Hungarian and Barbarossa. All the varieties are picked together and cofermented to produce the spellbinding Turley Wine Cellars Library Vineyard Petite Syrah cuvée. Thank you to the one & only @ownrooted for showing us around this magical little piece of Californian wine history 💚🌱 #wine #organicwine #turleycellars #thelibraryvineyard #ampelography #oldvines #californiawine #napavalley
