I did not know Lazar well and don't want to discredit myself in the eyes of those who did by pretending otherwise. However, I do have a small voice in the CrossFit community and I feel obliged to share my opinion. Lazar did not die in an unfortunate accident, but due to the grotesque negligence of CrossFit HQ. Also, it was a terrible death. There are good ways to go out, but this was not one of them. In my opinion, the competition should have ended the same day that Lazar died. If it had been an accident, I believe that the competition could have continued, but this was not an accident in the commonly accepted understanding of that word. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with HQ? The only conclusion any honest and reasonable person can draw from this tragic episode is that they couldn't care less about the safety of the athletes and that they are so obsessed with money-making in the short-term that they are quite willing and able to burn the entire house down in the process. It's necessary to make a distinction between the company on the one hand and the rest of the community on the other. I never had anything to do with the company, but have always been a part of the community. I want the community of which I am a part to become bigger and better than ever before. The company, on the other hand, has totally discredited itself and is owed no loyalty or allegiance by any person with a conscience. If people are not willing to take a stand now by choosing not to participate in competitions, courses, affiliations, etc. until radical change has been affected - then no change will be forthcoming. The winners of the 2024 CrossFit Games are @spraguerrrr and @tiaclair1, but I consider the real champions to be @adlerjeff and @laurahorvaht because they put principle over profit and narrow self-interest. Lastly, to the family of Lazar, and to his closest friends - I am sorry for your loss.

Weightlifting 101 Elite Training Camps are back on the menu 🔥 The camps will be hard because we have a lot of work to do, but the main goal is to build a better barbell foundation. Everyone will start from scratch and work on the basics together before getting to the more advanced stuff. The camps are not going to be irresponsibly savage. They are free of charge, but you have to be an Individual Semifinalist to participate. Coaches and athletes alike - write me if you are interested. —————————————————————————————— #weightlifting101 #weightlifting #backtobasics #crossfit

@coach_basile has attended three training camps of mine. In the second training camp, he had made some important corrections to his split jerk, but was held back by his inability to safely and effectively bring the barbell down when doing sets of multiple reps. In the latest training camp, he had improved this part of his barbell game to the extent that he really impressed me and inspired the athletes with the same weakness to take it more seriously. @enricozeno attended my training camp in Bordeaux a few weeks ago. It was the third camp of mine that he has attended - and even though every camp is different, there inevitably is a lot of repetition. This repetition can be put into two categories: (1) The fundamentals that you need to be instructed in over and over and over again and which the athlete needs to diligently maintain and perfect. (2) The information that you know and which you are hearing again, not because you really need it, but because there are athletes taking part for the first time who have not heard it before. During the first split jerk session - lasting about an hour - we literally ONLY practiced with bodyweight. We did that because I know it is a wonderful opportunity for the new athletes to be completely re-wired from scratch - but while I also know that it's never a waste of time for the more experienced athletes to work on the fundamentals, I can't allow for the session to become boring, thereby losing their attention and respect. When the session was over, I genuinely felt that I had given a stellar class and that I had stopped at the right time. More would have been worse. When @enricozeno then makes a PR lift, it gives me reassurance that I am doing the right thing. Barbell at 170kg!

How Smooth Do You Move? 20 rounds of 1 complex at 57,5kg / 80kg + 5 bar-facing burpees. The complex is a power clean into back rack into snatch balance. You are allowed to rest and to change your grip during the complex. However, if you lose your balance and take a step forward or a step back, then it's a no-rep and doesn't count. @victor.hfr did the workout in 08:05 with one no-rep.

About a year ago, @matt.chrr reached out to me asking if he could attend a training camp. Being an intermediate level athlete with the goal of taking it to the next level - and with heavy lifting being his biggest weakness - attending a training camp seemed like a great opportunity. However, I told @matt.chrr to first do a seminar in order to prove himself, to learn what to work on and how to do it. Long story short, @matt.chrr did attend a seminar, he did prove himself, he did put in the work - and recently he attended a training camp along several Semifinals and Games athletes. Barbell at 155kg for a new PR!

You can move your feet, refrain from moving your feet, or you can take a step. There is a time and a place for each.

As a coach, you need to know what you want, why you want it and how to get it. @claudia_glk has really good front rack mobility and can easily maintain the hookgrip in the squat clean, but just because she is able to do it, does not mean that she should. When the squat clean starts to get heavy, @claudia_glk struggles with the turnover, i.e. getting the elbows into the correct position in the front squat part of the lift. However, if she lets go of the hook, she is able to increase the speed of the turnover - and that is the sole and sufficient reason for why she needs to do it. Barbell at 108kg.

In the pull phase of the squat clean, you need to get the full extension in the right direction with gradual acceleration. This is easy to achieve in a vertical jump, but is much harder with the barbell. The idea behind doing a vertical jump is that you get to approach the barbell with that fresh feeling of what you should be doing - which helps bridge the gap and helps you do it correctly with the barbell also. My specialty as a coach is teaching barbell technique in the context of functional fitness. I made a conscious choice to become hyper-specialised in this particular area because it is what I am most passionate about - and because it is so overwhelmingly important that no one can be indifferent to it. Whether you are an ambitious beginner or an aspiring world champion, you need to strive for excellent technique.

The problem with the truth is that it tends to hurt. People's perception of themselves are often at odds with reality and when you bring that to their attention, they are offended and will become defensive. If you are really serious about self-improvement, you should welcome all opinions and favor criticism over flattery.
