The ultimate Argentinian steak experience 🥩 “When in the neighbourhood of Don Julio, be sure to visit their community garden, Huerta Luna de Enfrente, located across the street from the carnicería. Built nearly four years ago, the garden brings Palermo residents together through workshops on gardening and composting while donating its produce to local kitchens and schools. And conveniently, just up the block from the garden and carnicería is Don Julio, newly ranked The Best Restaurant in Latin America 2024, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna! The experience begins in the cellar, home to an unrivalled collection of Argentine wines curated by co-owner and sommelier Pablo Rivera, who has acquired some of the rarest and most exciting bottles in the country. Upstairs, the dining room buzzes with energy which is completely filled with diners from morning until late at night. The tasting menu, from Chef Guido Tassi, begins with dried-cured chorizo, golden libritos (flaky pastries resembling the pages of a book), bombon sausage with zesty chimichurri, and ember-roasted bread crowned with chives. From the garden come roasted broad beans with their flowers and leaves, showcasing the full expression of the vegetable. The menu continues with the most extraordinary sweetbreads (their secret is in the freshness) and field peas, followed by flank steak paired with an arugula salad. The savoury courses end with two crown jewel cuts – the juicy centre ribeye and the utterly tender ribeye cap paired with charred onion petals. The menu closes with vanilla ice cream blanketed in strawberries and citrus zest. An absolute knockout of a meal and one to remember for a long time to come!” 📸✍️: 50 Best TasteHunter @theneverfull #LatAm50Best #50BestTasteHunter #Awards #FoodNews #Foodie #Foodstagram #FineDining #Chef #Restaurant #RestaurantNews #DiningOut #Travel #Gastronomy #LatinAmerica #Food #LatinAmericanCuisine #BuenosAires #Argentina #Argentine @donjulioparrilla @guidotassi @pablojesusrivero @sanpellegrino_official @acquapanna
Experience the essence of a traditional Buenos Aires bodegón “El Preferido de Palermo is a lively tribute to Argentina’s culinary customs that exudes nostalgia and charm. Its storied past as a 1950s almacén turned bodegón was revitalised in 2019 by Pablo Rivero, owner of the iconic Don Julio. Pablo and his team have created a neighbourhood staple that upholds the same sustainability philosophies as its steakhouse counterpart. Produce, eggs and honey come from the shared farm while everything from charcuterie to ice cream is made in house. Behind the menu is chef Guido Tassi, who oversees the kitchens at both El Preferido and Don Julio alongside head chef Victoria Degiorgio. Here, the food and wine complement Don Julio’s focus on the parrilla by exploring broader Argentine classics, creating a cohesive yet independent identity of its own. If we lived in Buenos Aires we would eat here every day! The line to dine there tells us that many others feel the same way! The menu begins with small dishes such as blood sausage with egg and asparagus dressed in pesto and arugula cheese. A dedicated charcuterie section features options like calabresa, salami, and bondiola, alongside a number of cheeses including buffalo milk mozzarella and double cream camembert. The showstoppers of the menu, however, are the beef milanesas – offered in both the natural and the fugazzeta-style version, generously smothered in cheese and onions. Dive into these accompanied by side dishes like caesar salad blanketed in parmesan cheese, crispy fries, or irresistibly creamy mashed potatoes. To finish, there is a gorgeous selection of artisanal ice creams in addition to the signature homemade flan with dulce de leche, a final indulgence you cannot miss!” 📸✍️: 50 Best TasteHunter @theneverfull #LatAm50Best #50BestTasteHunter #Awards #FoodNews #Foodie #Foodstagram #FineDining #Chef #Restaurant #RestaurantNews #DiningOut #Travel #Gastronomy #LatinAmerica #Food #LatinAmericanCuisine #BuenosAires #Argentina #Argentine @elpreferidodepalermo @donjulioparrilla @guidotassi @pablojesusrivero
What makes Don Julio The Best Restaurant in Latin America? “Come with us on a journey beyond the parrilla, about 100km west of Buenos Aires to where it all begins: La Comarca, Don Julio’s farm. Ethical and regenerative practices are at the core of its operations with nearly everything on the menu sourced from here. Owner and sommelier Pablo Rivera oversees La Comarca working closely with Mercedes López who leads the farm full-time. There are rows of growing fruits, vegetables and herbs, wooden beehives, cage-free hens and open pastures where cattle roam freely. Through rotational grazing, cows forage on a nutrient-rich ‘salad’ of grasses and plants before they are moved to a new section, allowing the land to recover before being grazed again – mimicking nature. This approach ensures that every cut of meat reflects the care given to the animals and the land. Back in Buenos Aires, the beef is meticulously butchered and aged in-house at the nearby carnicería where nothing goes to waste. And, at the forefront of innovation, the team at Don Julio are experimenting with wet-aging techniques that eliminate the need for vacuum-sealed plastic bags, further reducing their environmental impact. Every step of the process from farm to table embodies Don Julio’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation, setting it apart as a leader in fine dining and ethical culinary practices. And this is just the beginning! La Comarca and Pablo Rivera’s team have ambitious plans for the future! There is more to uncover – stay tuned for Part 2!” 📸✍️: 50 Best TasteHunter @theneverfull #LatAm50Best #50BestTasteHunter #Awards #FoodNews #Foodie #Foodstagram #FineDining #Chef #Restaurant #RestaurantNews #DiningOut #Travel #Gastronomy #LatinAmerica #Food #LatinAmericanCuisine #BuenosAires #Argentina #Farm #Farming @donjulioparrilla @pablojesusrivero @guidotassi @sanpellegrino_official @acquapanna
A must-visit restaurant in Buenos Aires’ buzziest district “A giant inflatable baby marks the spot of Niño Gordo (No.34 on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants), the eclectic Asian-influenced restaurant from Chefs Pedro Peña and German Sitz. The menu draws on recipes and techniques from across the eastern continent while incorporating Argentine ingredients. You will find a delicious take on a Japanese katsu sando made with breaded striploin on ultra fluffy brioche, steak tataki wrapped over rice with egg yolk and shiso, and Korean-style beef baos with all of the accompaniments like pickles, gochujang mayo and sweet chilli. The restaurant’s interior is as dynamic and fun as its menu, featuring art installations, neon lights and playful nods to Asian pop culture like manga art, anime figurines and suspended red lanterns. Each room at Niño Gordo has a different vibe but for the best view, a seat at the counter is the place to be! The compact kitchen is nonstop where the team expertly sauté, steam, grill and assemble dishes in full view!” 📸✍️: 50 Best TasteHunter @theneverfull #LatAm50Best #50BestTasteHunter #Awards #FoodNews #Foodie #Foodstagram #FineDining #Chef #Restaurant #RestaurantNews #DiningOut #Travel #Gastronomy #LatinAmerica #Food #LatinAmericanCuisine #BuenosAires #Argentina #Argentine @xniniogordox
The restaurant redefining Mexican gastronomy with bold creativity, fresh flavours, and heartfelt hospitality “Behind an unassuming façade in Polanco, an inspiring vision of elevated Mexican cuisine and exceptional hospitality are brought to life by Chef Jorge Vallejo and Alejandra Flores at Quintonil (No.9 on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list). The 11-course menu here is a contemporary love letter to Mexico’s abundant biodiversity where you will find dishes like juicy tomatoes under a veil of pumpkin with horchata foam, king crab in pipián verde with blue corn tostadas, a tamale of duck pibil with young corn cream and a perfectly cooked duck breast with Oaxacan mole negra and huitlacoche. But the highlight has to be the ‘entomophagy festival’ – an ode to the historic tradition of eating insects such as ants and grasshoppers but in a completely reimagined way! The spread is a stunning feast which includes dishes like the charred avocado with escamoles (ant eggs), salsa with jumiles (stink bugs), chorizo with chicatana ants and beautifully seared bass with chapulin (grasshopper) adobo. This is all accompanied by warm corn tortillas where the idea is to mix and match to create your own tacos. Desserts continue with regionally sourced products including cactus from Milpa Alta for a sorbet that has been on the menu since day one, crème fraiche and caviar drizzled in Melipona honey, Mexican cornbread made with vanilla from Cuetzalan and a delightful mamey fruit panna cotta tartlette to close out the menu!” 📸✍️: 50 Best TasteHunter @theneverfull #LatAm50Best #50BestTasteHunter #Awards #FoodNews #Foodie #Foodstagram #FineDining #Chef #Restaurant #RestaurantNews #DiningOut #Travel #Gastronomy #LatinAmerica #Food #LatinAmericanCuisine #Mexico #MexicoCity #MexicanRestaurants @rest_quintonil @jorgevallejo
A gastronomic experience in Mérida you cannot miss “In the vibrant historic city of Mérida in Mexico, Huniik (No. 36 on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list) shines a spotlight on Yucatán’s rich culinary heritage using a modern and often interactive approach. Led by chef Roberto Solís (who spent time in the kitchens of 50 Best Restaurants including Noma, Per Se and The Fat Duck!) the tasting menu at Huniik reimagines classic Yucatecan dishes with an emphasis on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Each course highlights a key regional product, beautifully introduced on a menu embroidered with the featured ingredient of the dish. Think ripe tomatoes with epazote sorbet, tuna wrapped in flame-kissed hoja santa leaves, and quail egg papatzul. You might also find yourself on a short field trip outdoors to watch the team dig up hours-long cooked cochinita pibil, resulting in one of the tastiest tacos imaginable! These dishes, served with a beverage pairing that leans heavily on natural wines, really celebrates the flavours of Yucatán with a modern twist while honouring its deep-rooted Mayan connections.” 📸✍️: 50 Best TasteHunter @theneverfull #LatAm50Best #50BestTasteHunter #Awards #FoodNews #Foodie #Foodstagram #FineDining #Chef #Restaurant #RestaurantNews #DiningOut #Travel #Gastronomy #LatinAmerica #Food #LatinAmericanCuisine #Mexico #Merida #MexicanRestaurants @huniikmid @robertosolis.a
Have you watched Univer❌⭕️ on Netflix yet? It was our holiday binge this year and brought us back to the mind-blowing meal we had at DiverXO a couple months ago. Chef Dabiz Muñoz’s dedication, persistence, otherworldly creativity, and intuition for flavours keeps DiverXO constantly improving and evolving – we have no idea how he does it but it just keeps getting better. The incredible team amplifies the experience even more. After our lunch, we caught up with chef in the kitchen. Sound on to hear about how a dish evolves from an idea to the plate and the creative process that is used to keep refining it even after it makes it to the menu! @dabizdiverxo @diverxo @cristipedroche @pablosobrino_xo @marta_campillo5 @theworlds50best #worlds50best #50besttastehunter #diverxo #finedining #tastingmenu
5 Must Try Restaurants in Sao Paulo (in no particular order)! We loved our time in the vibrant city and could not get over how dynamic and impressive the food is there! A first look at everything we ordered at the new Maritime diner from Chef Matty Matheson and team! OPEN TODAY! Think high quality seafood (raw, steamed, fried), classic east coast dishes (donairs, Jiggs dinner), and quintessential diner food (hot turkey and burgers, grilled cheese). The service is friendly, the portions are generous, and the flavours are on point. There is already a lot to love about Bar Clams! @barclamsbarclams @mattymatheson @coulsoncooks @ourhousehc #restaurantopening #torontorestaurants #diner #seafood #torontoeats
Icon Award winning chef Harry Sasson at the helm of the kitchen at his namesake restaurant in Bogota. The title is the newest addition to the ever growing list that chef has (both in and out of the kitchen) including restauranteur, TV personality, sustainability advocate, and philanthropist. The menu at Harry Sasson includes Colombian staples like grilled hearts of palm and arepas but does not shy away from global cultural influences like robata and wood fire cooking. The selection is extensive ranging from fresh seafood to Harry’s bar hotdog to a thick and juicy chuleton (the latter is a must order). The dishes are well-portioned and it is the type of food you could eat on repeat. In short, very good cooking that is very tasty! Combined with the plant-rich salon and view of the outdoor kitchen, it is an ideal place to spend a leisurely afternoon. @harry_sasson @theworlds50best @woodfordreserve #latam50best #50besttastehunter #harrysasson #colombianfood #arepa #chuleton #heartsofpalm #bogota
A massive congratulations to Don Julio, the newly ranked No. 1 restaurant on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list! (For the second time!) We spent a few days with Pablo Rivero, chef Guido Tassi, and the team earlier this fall and were blown away by the amount of care they put into their work, their hospitality, the incredible food and wine (no surprise!), and very importantly, the respect they have for each other and all of their guests. As well, learning about their commitment to regenerative farming then seeing it for ourselves at their farm gave us an entirely new insight and appreciation for the beautiful meals we had at Don Julio and El Preferido. These are a few photos of the moments captured with team Don Julio (sprinkled with a little El Preferido!) Excited to share more from this trip super soon! @donjulioparrilla @pablojesusrivero @guidotassi @theworlds50best #worlds50best #latam50best #donjulio #steakhouse #bestrestaurant #buenosairesargentina
Sushi Yūgen x Jônt in Toronto this past weekend, arguably the most exciting event in the city (😉)! Chefs Kyohei Igarashi (Sushi Yūgen) and Ryan Ratino (Jônt) created a menu using premium imported and seasonal ingredients which were beautifully prepared and served in a 15 course tasting. We started with snacks like Jônt’s classic seaweed tart with kamasu and caviar and Sushi Yūgen’s dome of fluke with truffle in soy sauce. Savoury courses included two versions of chawanmushi – Jônt’s with red kuri squash and bafun uni and Sushi Yûgen’s with chicken broth and white truffe, both of which were brilliant. There was a gorgeous kue fish with caviar and a whole kinki with burdock root. We enjoyed tempura matsutake mushroom and buttery wagyu with glazed chestnuts and white truffle. As well as abalone in liver sauce (with an added serving of vinegared rice for the sauce!) and the dreamy uni rice bowl with tuna, caviar, wasabi, and salmon roe. Dessert was a sweet and silky purin with persimmon, black sugar caramel, and whiskey ice cream. Cocktails for each of the courses were created by Massimo Zitti, owner of Toronto’s beloved Mother Cocktail Bar. We sipped on drinks like a white asparagus gibson, smoked paprika milk punch, and ‘red wine’ with Montpulciano reduction and, black tea, beetroot, and gin. Last but not least we ended the evening with a Suntory Whisky tasting involving their limited edition Tsukuriwake selection. The event, including the special touches like the origami name plates printed napkins were curated by Sushi Yūgen’s co-owner, Kamen Sun, who is a quiet force in Toronto’s best hospitality!
