Part 2 of our home story. Living in our barn wasn't easy. We built the barn after selling our 1912, 5 bedroom home. Going from a beautiful old house to an unfinished 800 sq ft barn was crazy. We didn't plan to live in the barn for so long. We didn't even plan to finish it on the inside, but God had other plans in making us parents while we lived there (that's another amazing part of the story that I'll share later). Back to the kitchen..... We had a short counter, 2 cabinet doors underneath, a very weird "pantry" area, and a dresser for dishes and silverware. All our kitchen everything was stacked high because of lack of room. I would go to pull something out and then have to reorganize because everything would go tumbling. This was a constant. And sunshine didn't exist in the kitchen, bedroom or bathroom. I never got to watch the birds or see turkeys from my window. I literally had a black desk lamp on top of the fridge to light my sink area. I dreamed of a real kitchen. Not having an angled wall at my face was part of that dream too! All this to say that I mean when I say that I wouldn't trade any of it. I wouldn't. Patience and contentment are beautiful things. We don't need the best of everything. Secondhand appliances, hand me down furniture, and handmade where we could is how we made it work for us. We didn't need a big budget and bank loans (we didn't have a big budget anywayπ) Four years of our lives went into this house. And I still walk in the door oh so often, with thankfulness on my lips and in my heart.
That's how it went down. But now it's hanging in my house, and I absolutely love it. Not saying that I wouldn't love it the same with an anthropomorphic switcheroo. Any takers on the ornament? Comes with free hot glue globs and shiny tinsel...oh.... and it may also be a little melty. Anyone? Don't forget to save this video so you know what to look for while you're out and about. You may come across one also, and trust me.... It's better to know before you hot glue it to a wreath. ππ©΅π©΅ J'net
It's all in the details. When we built our house, I wanted pieces to ground the spaces....to make them feel like they had been there for ages. Light fixtures were one of the ways I did that. I shopped auctions, eBay, more auctions, more eBay until I found what I needed for very little money. $300 to be exact. That was my lighting budget. I have quite a few beautiful, old light fixtures throughout our home. Yes, some of them needed rewired, painted, and some of them needed pieces and parts to make them complete, but we outfitted our home with all our lighting (except the task lights in the kitchen), for 300 smackers, including my copper lights on the outside of the house. Now to be fair, we did add more NEW lighting about 8 years into living here. BUT oldies still make me weak in the knees and will outlive anything that we have bought recently. I'll choose 80-100 year old anything over new any day. Well.... Maybe not French fries. They need to be piping hot. And it's true. That globe fell to the floor and didn't break or crack. They don't make things like they used to. Not my typical post today, but I thought this was too cool not to share. #vintagelighting #schoolhouselight #antiquelight #triedandtrue
Yeah. Sure. You can do it. BUTTTTT.... The silver gives more of that traditional "tinsel look" and the colorful strands get lost with all the ornaments. I thought I'd give it a whirl with the @dollartree party necklaces, and although I'm all about color, the silver definitely trumps the color for me on the tree. I also didn't use the blue and purple strands, because... welllll... I just didn't want it to look like it should be on a Louisiana parade float. Those colors just scream Mardi Gras to me. So in case you were wondering, I gave it a trial run for y'all. I am leaving it as is this year, but next year I'll do only silver or gold. What do you think? Do you like the color, silver or both? If you decide to use beads on your trees like this, send me some pics!! Okay. I'm done decorating my tree now. There aren't any more branches on which to hang ornaments or beads. I have to stop at some point. I'm most definitely at said point. Hope you have a great new week. πππ J'net #vintagechristmas #christmastree #shinybrites #christmasdecorations #treedecorating

Any fans of tinsel out there? I remember my aunt and uncle used to absolutely load their tree with tinsel. I do love the look, but it's soooo messy and time-consuming, and let's face it.....it also kills me to cover all my gorgeous antique ornaments. So this was the next best option! And I love it so very much that I want to go buy another strand or two of beads! Don't forget to save this idea if you love it! It's an inexpensive way to add some glam and nostalgia to your tree! Much love to you on this Friday. I hope you enjoy your weekend! π©·π©·π©· J'net #vintagestyle #christmasdecor #christmastree #treedecorating #craftingidea #shinybrites #antiqueornaments #ohiohome

I made a decision today. I'm going for "less is more" this year. I know it doesn't look that way from this view, but I've decided to leave a boatload of Christmas things in their totes this year. We have some decor scattered about, but the house just won't be loaded with Christmas this year. We've lost a week with Thanksgiving being so late, and I have so many other things that need to be done before Christmas. It's not worth the mental or physical battle to get it all done. I want to enjoy this time. It's okay though. No one is going to walk in my house and think I forgot to decorate for Christmas. π€£π€£ Anyone else feeling the unfortunate lack of time this year? No one says it has to be perfect. It's all about the memories anyway, right?
Anyone else having pie for breakfast? π€¦ Am I the only one? Sharing some sweet glitter houses that will be heading to my shop @lifehasrepurposeshop next Saturday the 7th. I'll be gathering some Christmas nostalgia and sharing it with you at 9 am EST for Virtual Flea Market Saturday. We've got an incredible group of vendors joining me for this event, and you won't want to miss their previews as well. @barn_again Shop Val's website @esthermariesshop Shop Heather's IG squares @vintagehavenshoppe Shop Nicole's IG squares @the.vintagevine Shop Kandis's Etsy shop @havenberryvintage Shop Renee's website @lifehasrepurpose Shop my IG squares @lifehasrepurposeshop #virtualfleamarketsaturday #vintagechristmas #putzhouses #christmasdecor
One more little corner all done up for the season. Found me some satin blanket binding at a thrift store. It makes the prettiest ribbon for next to nothing. Do y'all look in the bins and drawers for sewing and craft supplies at the thrift stores? πππππππππππππππππππππ I thought my new pantry cabinet would be perfect topped off with a gorgeous garland from Havenberry Vintage. You can find it, and everything else on their website, for 20%off two or more items this weekend. See my stories for a link if you're so inclined. You can also hear my turkey escapades.
Not only does she do floors, but she also decorates. Now I just need one that puts the dishes in the dishwasher. Oh man. Today was a whirlwind. The turkey is in the oven. Sweet potato casserole, dressing, cheesecake, pumpkin pie and green beans casserole are all put together and ready for the oven tomorrow. All the dishes....π€¦π€¦π€¦ They were EVERYWHERE! But better today than tomorrow! Do y'all make a bunch ahead or do you do it all the same day? It's almost 9:00 and the turkey has hours to go. Well, I guess I'll be sleeping on the couch and setting my timer. Wish me luck. Happy Thanksgiving, All! π«Άπ«Άπ«Ά
