POV: You love cottage style home decor and are tired of being shown mansions on IG and you find my account. ❤️ My name is Lizzie and if you are new here, welcome! If you have been following me for a little while, thank you! I believe that home decor should be accessible, sustainable, and fun! My home is a mishmash of antiques, vintage inspired pieces, DIY, affordable new finds and thrift. I gravitate toward Cottage style decor, but am influenced by everything, so you can expect to often see several decor styles overlap even in one room.❤️ My home is a work in progress! My home is a 1978 cape cod style house with plenty of scope for imagination as far as renovations and my husband and I tackle one project at a time. We do as much of the work ourselves as we are able, and often teach ourselves along the way. Our renovations tend to be budget friendly. We share our home with two sets of twin children, several cats, and a few small dogs. The pets in particular feature regularly in my content as they share our home with us and it is as natural to me to see a cat lounging on a chair as to see sunlight streaming through a window. 🐈‍⬛ As for all the rest, I am a West Virginia born and raised Coal Miners daughter. With rural Appalachian roots, I just can not pull off bourgeois. I am a country girl adjusting to life outside of Metro Atlanta, hoping to get back to the mountains and the quiet rural life style that my heart calls home while I enjoy curating that feeling in my here and now. I hope you stick around…. I have loads of things I want to share with you. And I would love to know who you are, too! Leave an intro in comments, if you please. ❤️ | cottage style decor | West Virginia | Missing country life | thrifting | vintage style | english country decor | country french decor | house of pets | coal miner’s daughter | use what you have | budget decorating | older home | old home renovations | cozy decor | cozy home #farmhousedecor #cottagedecor

Two weeks ago we stopped using our front door… Here is why. 🪺 Wouldn’t you? Sometimes she gets nervous when we pass the door, but generally she is content to ignore us existing in our spaces, so we are letting her have the wreath for a bit and using the side door in our garage exclusively ❤️ The cats love to sit by the door and listen to her sing 🐈‍⬛ #birdnest #sweetspring #frontdoorwreath #porchdecor #babybird

POV: You don’t need a microwave above your stove. In early December when I shared how we updated our 2000’s kitchen on a budget, the item that had interested everyone and what I received the most questions about was the removal of the microwave. So the microwave removal gets its own reel. ❤️ We are a family of six and and all of us are capable in the kitchen. Having the microwave above the stove was a hindrance to anyone using the stove. Either we were ducking when the door was opened as we prepared meals, or we were moving out of the way so another family member could access to the microwave/stove. Basically, if the stove was in use, odds were the microwave was as well. We were already aware that we were going to replace the backsplash. I wanted something brighter, to lighten up the kitchen. It just made sense while replacing the backsplash to do something practical for our family. And that was moving to microwave and installing a range hood. Bonus: At the end of this reel, you get to see the very non-glamorous, place my microwave now sits 🙃 Where is your microwave in your kitchen? | cottage kitchen | budget renovation | range styling | cozy kitchen | farmhouse kitchen | country kitchen | #kitchenrenovation #kitchenupdate #cottagekitchen

Sunday Stills. We are due for a week of rain and on one of our sunny days last week I switched out the coffee table in the English Country Style living room for the 1800’s marble topped Eastlake Table in the foyer. I tend to get things where I want them and they put, but I have enjoyed moving the Eastlake table about. You can see it styled for both rooms in these captures. Loving my Christmas Tree in the evening light. A few people have left comments that the Blue Danube saucers are too heavy for any Christmas tree, but my KOC tree has withstood them just fine- the branches do not even droop. I added Victorian aluminum tinsel this week to my tree, and I made the paper snowflakes in the window. Always enjoying the 1950’s secretary because it took me years to find the one I wanted. It has been cold here in Georgia and my chickens keep pushing their way back into our heated and cooled unfinished basement where they sleep at night. We have been joking that its their “barn”. 😂 Sorry no picture, please just picture it in your thoughts! 🐓🐓🐓

Looking to give something everyone needs a little more of? 🎅 Banana Bread is a handmade baked good that is a metaphor for warmth and security. 🎁 The scent of Banana Bread evokes fond memories from childhood of gathering with family, something we all are nostalgic for at Christmas. 🎄 I bet you already have a family favorite recipe, but if not, here is the one I am gifting this year. Wrap it up and use a handmade ornament as a gift tag to make someone feel loved.❤️ Banana Bread (Submitted by Shelley Albeluhn to @allrecipes with 13,000 reviews and a 4.7 of 5 stars ranking) 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda ¼ teaspoon salt ¾ cup brown sugar ½ cup butter 2 large eggs, beaten 2 ⅓ cups mashed overripe bananas Directions 1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
2 Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Beat brown sugar and butter with an electric mixer in a separate large bowl until smooth. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended. Stir banana mixture into flour mixture until just combined. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan.
3 Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 60 minutes. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. I am sharing baked treats this month with friends. I can’t get through the checkout fast enough, when I know I found something awesome! Want to hurry up and make sure that thrift find is mine.🤣 By the way, a few comments of late from people wanting to let me know they dislike resellers. First of all, I love resellers. I have found some great things through them. But FYI, I am not a reseller. ❤️

“Making Do”- a creative way to use what you already have to problem solve. I am a multigenerational coal miner’s daughter. Women in my family had to be resourceful and improvise with furnishings they had by “making do”. Tablecloths, chair seat pads, and throw covers were all tools to hide imperfections in a pretty way. Their ingenuity created beautiful homes they were proud of and is skill that was passed on to me. ❤️ I currently keep stain pens, paint samples, and sewing kits on hand to make little repairs around my house. Tablecloths cover watermarks on a well loved and well used table, throw blankets hide kitty cat scratches, and use elbow grease to fix a little bit of everything. What is a way that you make do? ❤️
