The Ganges River drapes like a necklace around the north of India. For Hindus, it is a goddess whose celestial waters first cascaded to earth through a lock of Shiva’s hair. She is also a lifeline for the 650 million people along her snaking course. In the city of Varanasi, stepped waterfronts called ghats invite the devout down to meet the river. Here the people bathe, pray, and scatter the ashes of their dearly departed. At dusk each day, while the sun slips behind the tumble-down temples, oil lamps shimmer in the rippling black, chants and chimes float through the aromatic haze, and a sense of the sacred is palpable. Locals and pilgrims alike attend the nightly aarti rituals lead by Hindu priests to honour the holy river – and you, too, are welcome. Visit hallowed Varanasi, admire the Taj Mahal, seek out Bengal tigers in the wild, and tour the princely cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur on our Grand Tour of India (more details at the link in our bio). #VisitIndia #IndiaTravel #SmallGroupTours

There are great treasures awaiting you in the desert, from Morocco's Berber villages to Egypt's ancient tombs. Some of our earliest civilisations rose out of the sands of North Africa and the Middle East, and their monumental legacy will reward you for the journey. The nature is just as spectacular. You can explore wind-sculpted dunes, palm-fringed oases, and pink mountains that were the canvases for ancient people to leave their mark. Discover the wonders of the desert at the link in our bio. #SmallGroupTours #Morocco #Egypt

Centuries ago, the Grand Tour was a rite of passage for young British aristocrats – a chance to revel in the cultures of Italy, France and beyond, all in a single journey. The tradition faded, but the idea was good. After all, why settle for one holiday destination when you can explore many? Today’s grand tours can cover whole regions, even continents, allowing you to experience both the shared and contrasting aspects of neighbouring nations. Here are three of our favourites: Grand Tour of Indochina Grand Tour of South America Across the Southern Caucasus #GrandTour #SmallGroupTour #MachuPicchu

Portugal charms with its picturesque cities and medieval castles. Porto and Lisbon are great places to explore on foot, both having excellent restaurants, energetic nightlife, charming neighbourhoods, and wide plazas. Beyond the cities, Portugal’s scenery ranges from vineyards to dramatic windswept coasts. Our brand-new small-group tour journeys from Lisbon, through the historic regions of Coimbra and Porto, to the picturesque, terraced hillsides of the Douro valley, where port – the world-renowned fortified wine – is produced. Signature experiences include a boat ride on the Douro River and a visit to a bakery to learn how to make pastel de nata tarts. #VisitPortugal #Lisbon #Porto

Chile inspires with its extremes, from bone-dry desert to ice-blue glaciers. Amid this cinematic nature, you can enjoy city life, indigenous culture, sublime wine and delicious seafood. Tour glittering Santiago with its mountain backdrop, then let the vineyards of Chile’s wine regions tempt you out of the city for tastings. You can completely escape civilisation in the Atacama Desert, famed for its spartan beauty; and Patagonia, one of the world’s last great wildernesses. We're proud to work with Chile tourist board to bring you the best of what this country has to offer. Discover Chile, an infinite journey, at the link in our bio. @chiletravel #VisitChile #ChileTravel #DiscoverChile #InfiniteJourney

There are few more romantic ways to travel than by luxury train. One of our favourites? The Maharajas’ Express. Experience India in all its multicoloured finery on a whistle-stop tour of North India. Your journey pauses first in Agra, where you have time to admire the Taj Mahal in all its majesty. From white marble to black stripes: next, it’s a safari in Ranthambore, hunting ground of the Bengal tiger. Pretty in pink, Jaipur is next to impress, as you take in the city’s landmarks – including the impressive Amber Fort. Then it’s on to the hilltop fortress of Mehrangarh in the ‘Blue City’ of Jodhpur; and the gleaming white City Palace in Udaipur. #VisitIndia #IndiaTravel

Picture yourself moving through sunny savanna and lush forest to spot creatures great and small, all while guided by experts who reveal the secrets of the wilderness. This is what a Cox & Kings safari gives you – your very own Attenborough moments in the African wilds. But Africa is large and diverse, so where should you choose? Our small group tours and private holidays visit some of the best safari reserves in the continent. Pair wildlife with wine tasting in South Africa, follow the Great Migration of wildebeest in Kenya and Tanzania, track gorillas in the mist of Rwanda, and much more. At the link in our bio, we share our journeys into the wild. #AfricaSafari #AfricaTravel

South-east Asia is a region of hushed temples, hooting rainforests, buzzing cities and sizzling street-food, laced together by the meandering Mekong. Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia make for a rewarding combination, offering wide-open bays and emerald mountains, sprawling temples tangled with vines, floating markets, lush paddies, and hilltop tribes. In Thailand, you can see the legacy of the Siamese Kingdom in the striking ruins of Ayutthaya, while Borneo is where to spot orangutans swinging between the trees. At the link in our bio, we share our selection of South-east Asia adventures. #SoutheastAsia #SoutheastAsiaTravel #Vietnam
