A couple of years ago zinnias took over my vegetable garden. Instead of being frustrated, I noticed that they were covered in butterflies and honey bees. I had an endless supply of *free* cut flowers. No, they didn’t supply food like my squash would’ve. But they brought me a lot of joy. Sometimes things don’t have to have any other purpose than to bring you happiness. . I tried to “civicly prune” some free forsythia, but I ended up buying some larkspur from @costco and aster from @krogerco . And they sure are making me happy! . Last year, around this time, I posted that I was going to take a break from this account during the summer in order to spend more time with my family before our youngest left for college. It was a fantastic summer, and my break actually turned into a year-long one. (It was really nice to take a social media break, and I recommend it if you haven’t tried it.) In that year our family had quite a few changes, which I may share more about in the future. But for starters, we eventually found our next home! We have settled into a 1930s home in small town Georgia. I’m making progress on one of the guest rooms. Ken and I slept in this room until a couple of months ago while restorations were being done in our bedroom. Since we moved into our bedroom, I started working on this one. This week I found a wonderful vintage, handwoven Hamadan rug at @thecottondepot , which looks great in this red, white, and blue room.
