A fiery farewell to fulfilled wishes! 🔥 Daruma dolls are popular good luck charms in Japan. The tradition is simple: fill in the left eye when you make a wish, and fill in the other when it comes true. At Shorinzan Darumaji in Gunma Prefecture, the purported birthplace of daruma, you’ll find them in all sizes and colour - each representing unique hopes and dreams. ✨ Each year visitors return their daruma to be burned in a ritual of gratitude, releasing old wishes and making space for new ones. One main ritual is held on 15 January, and smaller ones follow spontaneously throughout the year 📷 @yu__55__ #VisitJapanAU #VisitJP_gofurther #Takasaki #Gunma #Daruma #Culture #Tradition #NewYears #DarumaTemple #JapanHoliday #LuckyCharm

Thank you for a wonderful year! ✨ As we approach the end of 2024, join us in the 'joya-no-kane’ tradition at Kyoto’s Chion-in Temple. On New Year’s Eve, temple bells around the country are rung 108 times. According to Buddhism, there are 108 worldly desires, and each ring of the bell is a symbolic release, helping us let go of the past and step into the new year with a fresh start.🔔 This massive bell takes seventeen monks working in unison to strike, their voices echoing ‘ee hitotsu!’ (one more!) and ‘sore!’ ('now!’), creating a beautiful moment of unity and renewal. 🔔 Wishing you all a wonderful end to the year and we look forward to bringing you more Japan travel inspiration in 2025! 🤗 📷 @chion_in #VisitJapanAU #Kyoto #Chionin #NewYearsEve #NYE2024 #JapaneseCulture #Temple
