Can you name all ✨31✨ songs in this mashup? On March 22nd we enlisted the help of some of our talented friends to celebrate the combined birthday of Stephen Sondheim and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. šŸŽ‚ We knew we had to finish with a bang. So with some minor help from Rachael, Will arranged the ultimate SS x ALW mashup paying tribute to 31 of their songs in under 5 minutes. Send this to your musical theatre bestie ✨ āœļø/šŸŽ¹/šŸŽ™ļø @wlander āœļø/šŸŽ™ļø @itsrachaeljoyce šŸŽ„ @famousinnyvideo šŸ“ @thegreenroom42 #Sondheim #SondheimMemes #StephenSondheim #AndrewLloydWebber #SweeneyTodd #PhantomOfTheOpera #mashup #showtunes #musicaltheatre #broadway #musicals #theatre #broadwaymemes #theatrelife #theatreproblems #dramaclub #performerlife #theatrekids #theaterlovers #thetheaterlovers

This FLOORED me 🤯 During the Q&A portion of the Modern Influencer Movement of Broadway panel by @theartsinsider at @bwaycon we were asked if we recommended going for being a theatrical content creator. My answer, ā€œIf you want to go for it, GO FOR IT! There’s space for you and your unique voice.ā€ Which was met by the incredibly generous response in the video above. As someone who dedicates so much time, energy, and labor into content creation this made me like the late great Whitney Houston - so emotional, baby! 🄹 Thank you to all of our followers for your continued support, it means the world to us. If you’re considering making content about theatre or any of your other interests - this is your sign to DO IT! We’re rooting for you šŸŽ‰ šŸŽ„ @rebeccajmichelson #broadwaycon #panelist #influencermarketing #contentcreator #creativemarketing #socialmediastrategy #broadway #theatre #theatrelife #theatreproblems #bfa #influencer #theatreinfluencer #broadwayinfluencer #theaterlovers

THEN VS. NOW ✨ The Majestic Theatre has hosted some of Broadway’s most iconic shows, and will continue that tradition with Gypsy, which opens tonight. But first, let’s look at how the theatre looked just a few years ago. The Phantom of the Opera occupied the Majestic from 1988 to 2023, and many audiences have never seen the theatre in any other way. Many walls were painted black. The proscenium was redesigned to evoke the Paris Opera House. The theatre’s name outside was lit in front of a black background. The real chandelier was replaced with a prop one that famously fell for thousands of performances. Everything was adjusted to match the moody romanticism of Phantom. But since Phantom departed, there has been a full renovation to restore the theatre to match its name. The shiny and ornate proscenium arch is in full view. There are new seats, plush carpeting, and countless surfaces finished in gold leaf. The theatre’s original chandelier was reinstalled in its proper place. Plus the theatre’s ā€œMajesticā€ sign now gleams over a classic shade of David Merrick red, a color that screams show business. In fact, David Merrick Red is especially fitting to host the Majestic’s newest tenant, a revival of his 1959 musical hit Gypsy. I can think of no better musical to reopen this storied venue than a classic show biz drama so full of history and love for the artform. #Broadway #BroadwayHistory #MajesticTheatre #GypsyBway #PhantomOfTheOpera #theatre #theatrelife #theatreproblems #dramaclub #performerlife #theatrekids #theaterinfluencers #theaterlovers #theartsinsider

Today is the 35th anniversary of when the first episode of The Simpsons aired. To celebrate, here are some memes we’ve made using stills from the iconic show. We’ve seen The Simpsons do so many theatre episodes and musical sequences over the years, but the first that always comes to mind is ā€œThe Monorail Song,ā€ a parody of a Harold Hill type con-man coming into Springfield to swindle its residents into buying an expensive monorail system. And ā€œA Streetcar Named Margeā€ is such a moving episode where Marge finds an outlet through performing in community theatre production of Streetcar and Homer finally sees the frustration Marge feels in their marriage. A more recent highlight is 2017’s ā€œSpringfield Splendor,ā€ in which Lisa and Marge collaborate on a graphic novel that gets adapted into a musical. Part of our mission at The Theater Lovers is to make theatre accessible. We know there are just so many shows out there and we love the mainstream musicals, but we also have a soft spot for more obscure shows. That’s why when we boost and discuss the lesser-known shows, we usually try to use images or references that are immediately recognizable to people who don’t know the show. It makes the unfamiliarity of the subject seem less unfriendly. The Simpsons has been a particularly effective show for this approach. #TheSimpsons #SimpsonsMemes #hadestown #sweeneytodd #legallyblonde #broadway #musicals #theatre #broadwaymemes #theatrelife #theatreproblems #dramaclub #performerlife #theatrekids

The Sound Of Music has long been one of our favorite meme subjects. And since it airs again tonight, here are some more SOM memes we’ve made. On March 2, 1965, The Sound of Music made its film premiere in NYC before embarking on a roadshow theatrical release, playing in specific movie houses that could accommodate the work’s complex technical requirements. Roadshows were a staple of old Hollywood, and the format lent itself particularly well to stage-to-screen adaptations, such as Camelot, Oliver! and Funny Girl. Many lengthier old movies contain an intermission as a relic of this practice. As for The Sound Of Music specifically, it’s a cultural touchstone. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1965 and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Plus, the movie is very close to both of us. Rachael used to sing ā€œEdelweissā€ with her grandfather, who was convinced that the tune was an authentic Austrian folk song, and Will used to listen to the soundtrack album at his grandparents’ house, lying on their parlor floor facing their enormous record console. The piece has a special quality that unites people of all generations in a very sincere, deep way. #TheSoundOfMusic #TheSoundOfMusicMemes #RodgersAndHammerstein #JulieAndrews #broadway #musicals #theatre #broadwaymemes #theatrelife #theatreproblems #dramaclub #performerlife #theatrekids

Happy 35th Birthday, Taylor Swift. Blow out the candles and make a wish. Want something. Want something… šŸŽ‚ With Taylor Swift re-recording and re-releasing her albums over the past few years, she is reclaiming her autonomy and her artistic voice. What a fantastic way to heed Sondheim’s advice near the end of Sunday in the Park with George: ā€œAnything you do let it come from you, then it will be new. Give us more to see.ā€ā£ ⁣ #taylorswift #taylorswiftmemes #broadway #musicals #theatre #broadwaymemes #theatrelife #theatreproblems #dramaclub #performerlife #theatrekids

So what *did* I miss? IG and Facebook and WhatsApp are back up again after an outage over the last few hours. This gives us a chance to talk about Act II openers. Act II openers are a tough balancing act. Act I just ended on enough of a cliff hanger to merit the audience’s continued attention, and it’s time to start back up again and meet the audience’s expectations a second time. It has to grab the audience’s attention again while many are still shuffling back from the long bathroom line, but it also can’t give crucial information that could be missed. Finding the right balance is challenging.⁣⁣ Sometimes a number reestablishes where the characters have been by describing the outcome of offstage events, like how My Fair Lady’s Embassy Ball went (they did it) or how Carousel’s clam bake was (real nice). ā€œWhat’d I Missā€ recaps the previous act’s events from a new character’s POV, just in case there was anything the audience missed. And it is such a clever recap that many might miss that it seamlessly establishes the doubling of actors from Act 1 in new roles for Act 2. #Hamilton #HamiltonMemes #actii #broadway #musicals #theatre #broadwaymemes #theatrelife #theatreproblems #dramaclub #performerlife #theatrekids
