NALIS receives computers from Friends of the Carnegie Library! Last month, the Friends of Carnegie Free Library presented four desktop computers to NALIS’ San Fernando West Indian Reference Library (SWIRL), located at Harris Promenade, San Fernando. At the presentation, members of the group said that the contribution was intended to help promote digital equity, allowing more individuals to have access to the internet and NALIS’ online services. The Friends of Carnegie Free Library, a voluntary group established in 1994, consists of dedicated individuals who generously contribute their time, resources and influence to support and promote library services. Over the years, the Friends Group engaged in advocacy and various activities including holding barbecues and other fundraising events. Previous donations from the group included water cooler for patrons, newspaper racks, desktop computers, a laptop with multimedia equipment, books for both adults and children, educational posters, and many other items. @ttgovcomms

A Library Card is for everyone! A library card is one of the most valuable free resources available. Regardless of age, status or geographical location, a NALIS library card is for you. Do you know that at home, while on holiday, or on a business trip out of the country, you can access your library account and borrow books, magazines and other resources online? Materials borrowed online will be returned automatically on their due date. Ask us how you can access materials remotely using a NALIS library card. Today, we showcase Senator the Honourable Dr Amery Browne who too has a library card and is a proud member of the NALIS family. @ttgovcomms

Unveiling of the Machel Montano Collection! It was NALIS' absolute honour to join with Xtatik Limited to commemorate the unveiling the Machel Montano Collection, now officially inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Latin America and Caribbean (MOWLAC) Register. The Collection comprises music catalogues, newspaper and magazine clippings, films, music videos, books, photographs, certificates, and proclamations. Explaining the significance of the inscribing of a collection in the UNESCO Memory of the World programme, Ms Paula Greene, Executive Director of NALIS told the audience at the unveiling ceremony that the programme seeks to preserve and promote the documentary heritage of regions, protecting stories, sounds and records that define nations. She said this that it is important to NALIS because as a National Library system, the Authority is responsible for preserving, promoting and exploiting Trinidad and Tobago heritage information – i.e. all aspects of our cultural and historical records, as mandated in the NALIS Act – No.18 of 1998. Ms Greene implored all artistes, politicians, anyone or everyone with valuable materials to consult with NALIS about the preservation of their items and to think seriously about ensuring that these too are used to build our society. NALIS was involved in the submission of the Machel Montano Collection for inscription into the UNESCO MOWLAC Register and will provide oversight over its continued care and preservation. Persons can contact Xtatik Limited to view this collection. Congratulations to Mr Montano, Mrs Elizabeth Montano, Dr Kwwyn Johnson and all other persons involved in this project. @ttgovcomms

Happy Wednesday Everyone! Today is a good day to register for your NALIS Library Card. Don't delay, registration is FREE. We have been telling you that a library card is for EVERYONE. Look who else are proud members of our library - The Hon. Foster Cummings MP, Minister of Youth Development and National Service and the Hon. Camille Robinson-Regis MP, Minister of Housing and Urban Development. Both Minister Cummings and Minister Robinson-Regis received their cards at the official opening of the La Horquetta Public Library last November. They both agree that libraries are more than just places to borrow books - they serve as community hubs, offering access to information, technology, educational programmes and a safe space for people of all ages. Tell us what you love most about libraries. @ttgovcomms

Your library card gives access to a world of information! In the picture, the Hon. Keith Scotland MP, Minister in the Ministry of National Security (left), and the Hon. Symon de Nobriga MP, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister – Communications, show off their library cards during a visit to the Beetham Gardens Community. As you can tell, this visit was a few years ago, however, both ministers still cherish their cards and the access they provide to information resources, virtually and in persons at libraries across the country. Looking on is Neil Parsanlal, Chairman of the Board of NALIS who also has his library card. Have you gotten yours yet? Like and share if you have. @ttgovcomms
