Somethings are just unexpected- like me falling in love with this roadtrip through Tamil Nadu. When I was a kid growing up in the US , I wanted nothing to do with my heritage (since I was looking for acceptance in a new culture), but now I am reveling in my roots...and it feels liberating...in many ways a journey of self. . Stay tuned for the last leg of this road trip! . Should I publish an eguide on this road trip?! . Well...we did it! We quit our jobs to travel! As immigrants we NEVER thought that dream (my dream) would actually come true someday! Of course it's hard to walk away from jobs and friends and your comfort zone! But if not now...then when? I don't want to regret not trying. We both want to build some memories together NOW while we still have our health (my disc herniation was a BIG wake up call). Not sure how long we will travel for but we are going to be open and just flow with the experience. . 🙌🏻Truth be told my husband never had that desire to do this. But he says I put that thought in him many years ago and this year he finally felt the desire to just experience what a "gap year" could look like for us. We both travel a lot separately for our jobs (Me in tech, then now as a content creator) and we realized we simply aren't prioritizing adventuring together other than that 1 vacay a year and now we want to try it out! . 📸Full youtube episode on why we did what we did and how we did it + budget etc will be out next week! Meantime, let me know what questions you have and I'll answer here or in stories or add it to my youtube episode! Follow along and subscribe @theeagertraveler7406 on Youtube! . 🤗And would love ANY advice from y'll on anything related to full time slow travel! Have you done it, do you want to do something like this one day?? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 . Have you heard of Kaziranga National Park? It's in the state of Assam in the northeast of India, a region that is underrated with somewhat less infrastructure, depending on which northeast state you're heading to. . The national park is known for the one horned Rhino and designated a Unesco site. The park is said to have contributed to saving the Indian one-horned rhinos from the brink of extinction at the turn of the 20th century! . We are staying at a lodge called Borgos The Wild Haven close to the park and they provide the jeep safaris. @borgosdhansiri . The road trip from Nagaland's Kohima to this lodge is about 5 hours. . Our "gap year" travel has led us to Khonoma - a tiny village, home to the Angami tribe (one of 17 tribes in Nagaland) and India's first green village! . Head Hunting: the tribes of Nagaland were known for their courage and as a display of their bravery, it was quite common to hang the severed heads of their enemies or animals which they hunted. The Angami tribe also depended on animal hunting as a source of food until they shifted toward a more sustainable environment where conservation of their ecosystem is now their main focus. . Up next - we continue our gap year towards Kaziranga National Park and the Great Indian One-Horned Rhino! . Hello from the north-east state of India - Nagaland! We are on day 41 of our "gap year" and attending one of India's most unique festivals - the Hornbill Festival! Here are some pics from the 10 day festival happening right now, shot with the @sonyalpha a7cr 70-200 GM II, a fantastic camera and lens for travel, and excellent autofocus! . The Hornbill Festival is deeply tied to the cultural identity of the Nagas. It’s named after the great hornbill, a revered bird in Naga folklore and a symbol of strength, bravery, and pride. The bird frequently appears in the tribal traditions, dances, and headdresses of the Nagas, representing their deep connection to nature and their heritage. . Have you been to or heard of this festival?? . #nagaland #nagalandtourism #nagalanddiaries #nagaland_northeast_india #hornbillfestival #indiaphotography #sonyalphain @sonyalphafemale @sonyalphagallery @sonyalphain @timesofindia @deccanchronicle_official @natgeoyourshot @natgeotravellerindia #tlpicks @cntravellerindia

Finally switched from the @sonya7riii to the @sonyalpha a7CR with the 24-70 GM II lens and have to say am loving it so far! The body is light and makes for a great travel lens and the focus is sharp and love how crisp the shots are. . Some snaps I clicked in India during the third week of our "gap year" :) We are road tripping through my home state of Tamil Nadu, visiting my grandparents' village tracing my ancestry, experiencing the pleasures of responsible travel at the eco friendly @mantrakoodam_cghearth (regularly visited by India's national bird), and experiencing the ancient "Living Chola Temples" of South India near Kumbakonam. . Have you been to South India?? . #southindia #sonyalphain @sonyalphafemale #bealphafemale #indiatravelgram #tamilnadu @tntourismoffcl #templesofsouthindia #femaletraveler #cholatemples

I contributed to this @kqed article on 12 Bay Area hikes to escape the election madness (after you've voted): https://www.kqed.org/science/1995033/12-bay-area-hikes-for-escaping-the-election-even-for-a-few-hours . Check it out and tell me if you've hiked the trail I'm recommending :) I promise it's soothing and absolutely stunning. If you can get outside today and take a moment for your mental health, do it, whether it's a park, a walk around your neighborhood or on a trail. . 📸 @sonyalpha a7riii @sonyalphafemale . #bayareahikes #hikingculture #californiadreaming #electionday #getoutside #optoutside #mentalhealth

Postcards from Oregon...the U.S. has soo many underrated destinations like Bend, Oregon waiting to be explored! And shoutout to the people of Bend, some of the kindest folks I've met! If you haven't heard of Bend, it's best described as an outdoors mecca..from alpine lakes to the geological features and oh let's not forget their craft beer...Bend is one of a kind. . My 72 hour itinerary (save & share for planning): . Day 1: . 1. Check into @oxfordhotelbend - it's in downtown, great onsite restaurant, and walking distance to all the restaurants/breweries/boutiques. 2. Explore Smith Rock State Park - great climbing and hiking trails 3. Just 30 minutes from the state park farther north is the picturesque Steelhead Falls - plan for a very short hike to the falls, less than 2 miles round trip. 4. On your way back to Bend stop at Cline falls - there are multiple points but the best one is a short hike down. 5. Lunch @bendbrewingco - excellent patio overlooking the Deschutes river and great burgers slurp! 6. Coffee at @thecommonsbend - cozy and cute 7. Sunset at Pilot Butte: Drive to the top or hike to the top of this ancient cinder cone for 360 views! . Day 2 . 1. Explore Newberry Volcanic National Monument - do NOT miss this place! Trails like the Obsidian Lava flow are magical. 2. Check out Paulina Falls in the same area 3. Lunch @pinetavernbend - oldest restaurant with an actual ponderosa growing in the middle of the interiors. Great patio overlooking the river. 4. Check out a lava tube cave tour with @wanderlusttours 5. Sunset at the three sisters viewpoint 6. Dinner @wildrosethai - amazing Khao Soi . Day 3 . 1. Head out kayaking at the Cascades Lake or Newberry Caldera with @wanderlusttours 2. Check out Tumalo falls - great 6mi rt hike or drive to the viewpoint 3. Stroll through Drake park for fall colors . 📸Pics clicked by @michaeldbliss and me. Camera used: @sonyalpha @fujifilmx_us @sonyalphafemale #bealphafemale . Did you know Mono County and the surrounding Eastern Sierra provide the best show of glowing golden-orange-crimson fall colors in California and the western United States?! . 🙌🏻Starting in the higher elevations and working down, the colors glow starting mid-September through October all along US 395. . 🍁Current situation: Sagehen Summit has already shed its leaves, though splashes of color can still be seen along the road. The higher elevations of Rock Creek Road and Tioga Pass are also nearing the end of their peak season, so catch them while you can. Locations such as Virginia Lakes, Sonora Pass, and the higher elevations of McGee Canyon are shining with vibrant color. . 🍂For a full report visit www.monocounty.org . 📸 @sonyalpha a7riii . #fallcolors #californiafall #fallincalifornia #fallcolors🍁🍂 #californiatrip #visitcalifornia #sonyalphain #bealphafemale #sonyalphagallery @sonyalphafemale @sonyalpha
