We talk a lot about food and movement, but let’s not forget connection. Because what’s the point of living longer if you’re not also living well? In the words of Dr. Dean Ornish, the real epidemic isn’t just heart disease or diabetes — it’s loneliness, depression, and isolation. And the way we live — what we eat, how we move, how we show up for ourselves and others — directly affects that. So yes, eat more plants. Go for the walk. But also: call a friend. Share a meal. Find your people. That’s the kind of lifestyle medicine that works.

We had the honor of meeting with King Charles at Windsor Palace. @danbuettner pointed out that if the UK wants to live longer, better to focus not on changing behavior but rather the environment. Like @bluezones. @drvivekmurthy reminded the King that emergence of social media has occasioned the rise of childhood depression, anxiety and suicide. Building real face-to-face community is the antidote. @robertlustigmd pointed out that processed foods are the #1 killers and we should aim to 1) Eliminate Sugar (pure poison), 2) Increase Fiber and 3) add Omega 3’s and 4) avoid emulsifiers. I reported that you can often improve Alzheimer’s disease. Thank you to the King’s personal physician, Dr. Michael Dixon for arranging our meeting to coincide with @plminstitute conference.

Appreciate having been selected by @time magazine as one of the “TIME 100 Most Influential Health Leaders,” as this provides greater awareness of the transformative healing power of lifestyle medicine. This recognition is also for my esteemed colleagues at the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Ornish Lifestyle Medicine who have worked with me for many years, especially Anne Ornish. None of this would have been possible without them, as well as the brilliant scientists and clinicians in other institutions with whom I have collaborated and the generosity of those who have supported our work. Our research has often redefined the impossible as possible, empowering many people with new hope and new choices. I remain deeply grateful for these opportunities to be of service, as this imbues my life with meaning.
