New Weight Loss Medication Updates 💊 Dr. Shomali reports on new study results from the STEP-1 study and Surmount-3 and -4 study, which have shown weight loss benefits in patients taking Mounjaro and Wegovy. Mounjaro is approved for lowering blood glucose levels in people with diabetes, while Wegovy is used for weight loss in people who don’t have diabetes. Both medications are dosed once weekly using an easy-to-use pen injection device. The study results are promising, however Dr. Shomali discusses barriers including costs, side-effects and weight gain if the medications are stopped. A big thank you to Angie Meisner for sharing her cottage cheese and Jello recipe. Angie is awesome and so is her recipe.😊 Find the recipe and nutrient information below. I’ve also developed some low-salt variations that cut the salt in half, also see below. P.S. My most favorite recipe variation is the one below made with ricotta cheese, its rich and smooth and totally yummy. Protein Jello (Low-Carb 3 Ingredient) Makes 4 servings 1 cup boiling water 1 cup 2% cottage cheese 1 package No Sugar Added Jell-O (any flavour) Add the three ingredients into your blender and blend for 20-30 seconds or until smooth. Pour into a glass bowl and refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. Option: Instead of pouring into one large bowl you can pour it in to 4 smaller serving bowls, ready-to serve. Depending on the flavor of Jell-O that you choose, the top can be decorated with a couple of raspberries or blueberries, a twist of lemon or lime, or a sprig or rosemary shown in the video. Join me as I make my Light Christmas Punch. 🎄 My punch is a low-sugar, no-alcohol variation that’s perfect for all members of the family at Christmas time or anytime of the year! Holidays are a busy time, so you’ll appreciate that this is so fast and easy-to-make. Recipe developed by Karen Graham, RD, CDE MAKES 4 SERVINGS (EACH ABOUT 1½ CUPS/12 OUNCES) Ingredients: 2 cups of Low Calorie Cranberry Cocktail (40 calories per 1 cup) 3 sticks of cinnamon 2-355 mL cans (3 cups) diet Ginger Ale, diet Sprite or diet 7-Up, refrigerated ½ cup of fresh or frozen raspberries, thawed ice cubes Directions: Pour cranberry cocktail and cinnamon sticks in a large glass bottle or jug, cover, and let sit for 1-2 hours in fridge so the cinnamon flavor infuses the cranberry cocktail. Then add diet Ginger Ale, raspberries and ice. Karen’s Story: The osteoarthritis in my knees made walking painful and not fun. I was prescribed a knee brace and the first day I wore it, my pain went down significantly. I couldn’t believe it! It has been a great thing for me because it has allowed me to keep walking and stay active. I also decided to take up swimming again to further strengthen the muscles around my knees. I’ve been swimming once a week for 4 months now. One thing motivated me to do an other thing. Tips to stay active when you have sore knees, hips or ankle joints: No matter how many times your doctor tells you that exercise is critical to help manage your diabetes, you won’t go for a walk if you have pain. Pain stops you in your tracks. A knee brace is one way you can manage pain. In Complete Diabetes Guide we suggest other practical ways you can manage pain and be active. Nordic walking poles, bicycles, swimming and Tai Chi when used properly are types of exercise that allow you to be active in spite of arthritis or back or joint pain.
