At ADCES25, we asked Chelsea Hawkins what message she wanted to share with diabetes educators. 👇 The takeaway: Ask questions! 💬 “When working with people from different cultures, if there’s something you don’t understand about the food they’re eating or certain customs they have… don’t be afraid to ask questions.” ✨ A simple reminder that curiosity and respect go a long way in providing better diabetes care. We love the work that Chelsea is doing at @avancecare where dietitians provide personalized nutrition support across many offices in North Carolina. 👉 Are you a healthcare professional passionate about diabetes care? At #ADCES25 , we asked Care Directory member @diabetesnutritionist.karen : What’s a barrier you see in diabetes care for people from different backgrounds? Karen shared something so important — many people don’t get diabetes education that reflects their own lives and cultures. If the food lists only say “bagels are high in carbs,” what about someone who eats rice every day? That’s why representation matters. Having healthcare professionals who understand cultural foods and traditions can make all the difference in helping people manage diabetes in a way that feels realistic, sustainable, and supportive. 💙 #CareDirectory #ADCES25 #DiabetesCare #HealthEquity #DiversityInDiabetes

🚨 “Stop focusing on weight so much!” 🚨 That’s what Diana Mesa (@enlamesanutrition) told us when we asked, “If you could tell a diabetes educator one thing, what would it be?” At #adces25 , Diana reminded us that there are so many other metrics we can assess — and that overemphasizing weight can perpetuate weight stigma in diabetes care. 💙 Now it’s your turn ⬇️ What’s one thing you wish every diabetes educator knew? 📉 Did you know? People with diabetes are significantly more likely to lose insurance—and most never regain it. That’s why it’s crucial to understand your options before you’re in crisis. ✅ Look into Medicaid eligibility ✅ Explore marketplace plans under the ACA ✅ Ask your provider about financial assistance programs Consistent coverage means consistent care. Don’t wait until it’s too late—take steps to protect your access to diabetes management tools and medications. 🗣️ Need help navigating this? Let us know! We’re planning our POCLWD Summit in November, and if this topic resonates with you, we’ll make sure it’s included. 🔗 Drop a comment or DM us if you’d like to learn more. #NavigatingDiabetes #DiabetesCare #HealthEquity #DiabetesSupport #POCLWD #diversityindiabetes
