Tough to beat Orcas under the low-standing Arctic sun. At least for me it is as this is the kind of imagery that I have been hoping to create for the past years, coming back to Northern Norway year after year. It's just amazing how the sunrays up here dance in the water and having this in combination with Orcas, that's just pure magic! 💫 I managed to get some good shots with Orcas and sunrays over the years but I still have this idea in my head. The idea of a dream shot. Maybe it will remain an idea, maybe it will come true one day. Who knows. But this is part of what makes this so much fun, you can't force these things. Everything looked perfect but we had to abort our mission, turn around and leave to deliver the boat in time for our departure on the last day. No time to get in the water. Isn't she looking just so happy in front of her ball of Herring? 🐟🖤🤍 This is the essence of a Northern Norwegian ocean adventure during the winter months: witnessing Orcas herding Herring into a tight, so-called bait ball, pushing it to the surface for the fish to be trapped and then taking turns, approaching the ball, fluke slapping some Herring to stun them and then picking them up one by one, carefully filetting the fish and leaving behind a big old mess made of fish bones, heads, tails, guts and scales.
