“Watching the polar bear play with a piece of plastic in the beautiful Arctic wilderness underscored the impact of human waste on even the most remote environments.” says Kujala “Not even the uninhabited reaches of the Arctic are exempt from the pervasive grip of plastic pollution. “The storm raged all night with howling winds, the temperature far below zero,” remembers Ochs. “As I arrived at the lineup, the fog lifted, revealing perfect little longboard waves against a majestic mountain backdrop. Spotted our first icebergs!! We are painfully ready to do science! I'm joining the deep sea research expedition through the opportunity provided by the Ocean Photographer of the Year (@opy_awards), with Ocean Census (@oceancensus) to discover new species in unexpored regions! For me, this journey is not just a prize tour, but a life-changing education experience. Thanks to @oceanographic_mag. I owe you too much😭. And Falkor (too), my pants are already getting tighter and tighter (@schmidtocean) 😡. #marinebiology #southsandwichislands #deepsea #antarctica
