So this post is 8 years in the making! My name is Jake, I think it’s time to formally introduce myself! . Over the past 8 years I’ve been practicing underwater photography & videography. Initial starting out with a GoPro hero 5 for fun but then upgrading to a Sony A7siii which is what I currently use. I’m completely self taught, and am definitely still learning things every time I use the camera or edit. . Over the years I’ve won multiple GoPro awards, as well as having 2 of my short films win awards or place in the finals of competitions. Later this year I’ve got a larger project being released but have to keep it hush hush for the moment! . Over this time I also became a PADI Divemaster and NAUI scuba instructor, sharing my passion of the ocean with others and teaching them to scuba dive. Through my experience of teaching this is where I started to develop my online course and workshops. . Originally I’m from the UK, in 2017 and 18 I travelled south east Asia and South America, this is where the travel bug kicked in. In 2019 I made the decision to move out to Australia, initially for a year, but 5 years later after travelling around the country I I find myself in Shark Bay, Western Australia. . I’m not usually one for getting in front of the camera so taking these photos was something new for me, definitely didn’t feel terribly awkward. This also will most likely be the only photo of me on here for a while😂 . Everything in my life now somehow relates back to the ocean, and even though I do what I can to promote conservation and help our oceans, but even so I didn’t feel like I was doing enough. To celebrate #worldoceansday2024 I’m publicly releasing my award winning short film, Return From Extinction: Megaptera Novaeangliae (2024). . With the start of the humpback whale migration upon us here in @westernaustralia I couldn’t think of a better time to release this film. This is the first 2 minutes, the rest of the film (10 minutes total) can be found for free on YouTube. . Through the eyes of my camera, as well as Dan (@barefoot.wandering) and Laura’s (@laurags_photography) beautiful underwater clips, I aim to tell one of the greatest ecological recovery stories the world has ever seen. . This is the first time I’ve ever attempted a project like this. Using @krotosaudio and @motionarray I developed the entire soundtrack and sound effects which I had never worked with before. . This guy scared the S💩T out of me! We spotted a bunch of cleaner shrimp tucked away in a crevice on the reefs of Fuvahmulah. It got my self in position and approached slowly to not scare the shrimp away. Out of no where this moray eel sticks its head out. The ocean doesn’t needed 24 hours, it needs our respect at support more than ever. I’ve dedicated my recent years to telling the oceans story, now through Return to the Ocean I am to help it.
