I’m honored to have been shortlisted in two categories—Motion and Lifestyle—at the 2025 SONY World Photography Awards @worldphotoorg . While I may not have won, this recognition is a significant milestone in my photography journey. It’s especially meaningful as it marks my first acknowledgment for land photography. First off, huge thanks to Sony Malaysia for letting me test this lens a whole month before its official release! The moment I got my hands on it, I was shocked—what kind of black magic is this?! A 16mm F1.8 full-frame lens shrunk down to this size, weighing only 304g?! And on top of that, it comes with an aperture ring, focus hold button, IRIS LOCK switch, focus mode switch, and aperture click switch—features you’d usually only find on Sony’s premium G Master lenses. Seriously, how did they pull this off?! . This thing is officially the smallest F1.8 16mm wide-angle lens ever, and it’s tiny! It’s even smaller and lighter than the already compact 20mm F1.8, making it the ultimate travel lens—zero burden to carry around. I tested it during Chinese New Year while visiting my hometown in Butterworth and my in-laws in Malacca, so of course, I had to take it out for some night shots. With F1.8, low-light performance was chef’s kiss! . Autofocus at night? Crazy fast. Thanks to the Two XD Linear Motors Internal Focusing—a feature usually reserved for high-end lenses—and yet this gem is only RM3800?! No doubt this thing is gonna sell like hotcakes! . I took it from Butterworth to Malacca, all handheld, no tripod, and the results? Absolutely stunning. Sony has done it again! Usually, ultra-wide lenses this small suffer from crazy distortion.But this lens? Barely any. It’s so well-controlled, it can rival the Sony G Master 16-35mm. I’m beyond impressed! . Final verdict? LOVE IT. If you’re into wide-angle, travel, or street photography, this lens is an absolute beast—light, sharp, and amazing for night shots. 10/10, highly recommend! 🔥🔥 . Full version 完整版： https://youtu.be/fnmGacQqekQ?si=S-iONjY7Rg3qxk3W . 首先，超级感谢 Sony Malaysia 在这支新镜头发布前一个月就让我有机会抢先试拍！这是目前索尼最长的镜头——400-800mm，原本以为会很巨大，结果竟然只是比我一直在用的 Sony 200-600mm 长一点点，重量也差不多，实在是Sony的另一项创举！ . 刚好试用期间碰上农历新年，我也没出国，只能在家附近的森林碰碰运气拍鸟，结果嘛……没啥收获，最后还是跑去飞禽公园😂。为了对比，我用自己的 200-600mm 加上 1.4x 增距镜，等效 840mm F9，和这支全新的 800mm F8 差不多。但！两者真正一对一比起来，差距立刻显现！对焦速度明显快很多，又准！画质虽然光圈只差 1.0，但新镜头拍出来的画面亮度更高，Bokeh 也更柔美。 . 我不是专业的鸟类摄影师，所以不敢妄下定论，但可以肯定的是，这支镜头绝对是为拍鸟和野生动物而生！400-800mm 这个焦段完美适配野生动物摄影，而 800mm 的重量和体积居然还能控制得这么合理，直接塞进我的普通摄影背包，简直太棒了！下一趟去非洲大草原或婆罗洲原始森林，一定要带上它再战一次！🔥 . First of all, a huge thanks to Sony - Alpha Universe - Malaysia for giving me the chance to test this new lens a month before its official release! This is Sony’s longest lens to date—the 400-800mm. I initially thought it would be massive, but to my surprise, it’s only slightly longer than my usual Sony 200-600mm and weighs about the same. Truly another breakthrough from Sony! . Since the testing period happened to fall during Chinese New Year and I wasn’t traveling, I could only try my luck photographing birds in the nearby forest. But… just got a few birds, so I ended up going to the bird park instead! 😂 To compare, I used my own 200-600mm with a 1.4x teleconverter, giving me an equivalent of 840mm F9, which is quite close to this new 800mm F8. But! When comparing them one-on-one, the difference was instantly noticeable! The autofocus is significantly faster and more precise! Even though the aperture difference is just 1.0 stop, the new lens delivers noticeably brighter images with smoother, more beautiful bokeh. . I’m not a dedicated bird photographer, so I won’t make absolute claims, but one thing’s for sure—this lens is made for bird and wildlife photography! The 400-800mm focal range is perfect for capturing wildlife, and considering it’s an 800mm lens, the weight and size are impressively manageable—it even fits into my regular camera backpack! I’m definitely bringing it along for my next adventure in Kenya Masai Mara or the rainforests of Borneo!🔥 . #SEL400800G #ShootWithAlphaMY #AlphaLens

Chong Wan Yong was selected by judges for her photograph "Spider-Verse", entered into the Motion category of the Open competition.
