Here’s why timed feeds cause more wake ups.. Timed feeds are so common when you are working on sleep with your baby. Feed them every “x” hours- they are often a part of a schedule. I think letting your baby lead- offer milk frequently throughout the day and let them decide if they want it. Big sucks and swallows is an effective feed. If they are distracted or are flutter sucking, honour that and end the feed. When we time feeds, babes don’t take as many calories in the day and then they need them at night. The more we feed babes in the day, the better they will sleep at night. Questions? Ask away❤️❤️ #babysleep #ibclc #newborn #postpartum #breastfeeding #breastfeedingondemand

Here’s what to do⬇️ Your job is to put your baby to sleep on their back. When they can roll and move, they decide how they sleep. So put babe down on their back, not swaddled and with nothing extra in the crib. When they roll to their tummy, wait about 10 min or so, then go in turn them over and reassure them. Repeat every time is happens (I know❤️❤️❤️)… Spend a lot of your day doing tummy time on the floor and practicing rolling back to front and front to back. The whole process takes about 3-7 nights usually. Questions? Ask away! #postpartum #sleepregression #fourmonthsold #babysleep ##sleepcoach

Do they need more milk? No! How much milk a baby needs is not weight based, but we hear so often that parents of bigger Ben’s are told to give extra or to supplement or start solids early. Your baby will tell you everything you need to know❤️ Your job is to offer on demand. And watch: ➡️are they settled during and between feeds ➡️gaining and maintaining their curve ➡️enough wet and dirty diapers Your baby will tell you what they need❤️❤️ Questions? The short nap is so hard- hard on you as a mom. I see you! It is so anxiety provoking, I have been there. The good news is there is lots we can do about it! If you want help- we can do a feeding assessment and help you understand when your baby is done- learning this brings longer naps. The link is in my bio, and if you need help, just comment below❤️ #newborn #shortnap#postpartum #fourthtrimester #newbaby #fussybaby

How much is too much? I would recommend a few times a week- you don’t need to bathe your baby daily! On non bath nights just use warm water and clean their hands and face and diaper area. As babes get older- bath can be a great way to stretch awake times and make it to bedtime! Questions? Ask away! #babybath #bedtimeroutine #newborn #bathtume #postpartum #ibclc

This is the answer⬇️ Evenings are so hard with babes. I have been there and I see you! Newborns do not have melatonin (till around 3-4 months), and they do not look sleepy in the evening like an older baby. They are wired to be close and to want to cluster feed… if you try to put them down too early you will spend a lot of time picking up your babe and putting them down again… only to try again. Hold and cluster feed. Babe will doze and feed and doze and feed- Normal. Then try bed around 11- and you will get a way longer first stretch and they will go down easier❤️❤️ Questions? Can you control this? Yes! The best way to ensure you baby gets more fattier milk is to STOP TIMING FEEDS! Tell me if you have heard the "15 minutes a side" advice before? Read the carasol and I'll tell you why this doesn't work. Questions? Ask Away! #postpartum #newborn #breastfeeding #breastfeedingtips #fourthtrimester

If your newborn has constipated poops⬇️ A newborn poops frequently. In the first six weeks you can expect multiple poops a day. But… your babes poops can tell you a lot. If they are hard, or pellet like that could be indicative that something is up: ➡️introducing formula can constipate your newborn. If this sounds like you we can do an assessment and help you find one that is easier on their tummy. Palm oil can cause constipation and is a source of fat in many formulas ➡️Cows milk protein allergy can cause stool changes- sometimes diarrhea but also constipation. After six weeks some babes don’t poop everyday- however, this can be a red flag if your babe is unsettled or Rashy, or has other symptoms! Questions? They can mess with supply⬇️ Who knew a tiny piece of plastic could impact the signal your brain gets about making more milk! But it’s true! A nipple shield is a tool- and some moms want to use it longer which is also fine! We just need to make sure we watch supply. I would incorporate power pumping 2/3 times a week. This allows for extra stimulation to compensate for using the shield. Questions? Ask away! #nippleshield #nreastfeeding #breastfeedingtips #newnorn #postpartum

This really matters⬇️ Your flange size can be the cause of so many challenges, such as: ➡️ not pumping enough milk ➡️frequent mastitis or plugged ducts ➡️pain Commonly the flanges that come with pumps are too big! If you need help, we can help you measure virtually. Questions? Ask away❤️❤️ #breastfeeding #pumping #exclusivelypumping #mastitis #newborn #postpartum

Is your little one uncomfortable trying to 💩?! You’re not alone! About 22% of newborns may experience these tummy troubles and it can be distressing watching a little one who appears so uncomfortable. While this usually corrects itself- you may need to help your baby for the first little bit by gently positioning them in a way which helps them pass the stool. And of course if you have any questions or concerns about your little one’s bowel habits always reach out to your provider for their opinion! The other thing is… this can get mixed up with active sleep. Babes spend so much time here and it looks very similar. If you only notice this at night or in the early morning hours… I would wonder if it is active sleep. As always I am sending you so much love and support, you are exactly what your baby needs, even on days it doesn’t feel like it! ❤️ #newmama #newborn #newbornbaby #babypoop #💩💩💩 #💩 #babydiapers #postpartum#breastfeeding
