The US government is simultaneously (A) preparing to remove from its list of designated terrorist organizations the group which led the charge to oust Bashar al-Assad in Syria and (B) justifying Israel’s land grab in Syria by saying the nation has been taken over by terrorists. The US podium people have pivoted seamlessly from celebrating the liberation of the Syrian people in the removal of Assad to citing the fact that the nation is now overrun with terrorist factions in defense of Israel’s rapid move to militarily occupy large swathes of Syrian land while hammering Syria with hundreds of airstrikes. At a Monday press conference, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said these moves by Israel “are temporary to defend its borders” and that Assad’s ouster “potentially creates a vacuum that could have been filled by terrorist organizations that would threaten the state of Israel and would threaten civilians inside Israel.” “Every country has the right to take action against terrorist organizations,” Miller added. A US health insurance CEO’s murder has transcended political ideology in uniting average Americans of all stripes against the kind of corruption that would warrant some freedom bombs if it were in a foreign nation of strategic interest to the US. It’s no wonder Washington is hell-bent on banning TikTok. Shortly after a masked man was caught on camera gunning down UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson in midtown Manhattan on December 4, sparking a manhunt, users flooded the social media app with comments like, “Sorry, I can’t help. I didn’t see anything because my insurance co-pay was too high for me to afford eyeglasses.” Or “This story is getting more coverage than UnitedHealthCare ever provided.” They were mostly amused by the suspect’s successful evasion of authorities for several days, and the “deny, defend, depose” inscriptions on the shell casings found at the scene – similar to the “delay, deny, defend” phrase synonymous with the strategy used by health insurance companies to avoid paying out claims to those who have been paying for their coverage. Durk Pearson died recently. He was one of the pioneers of natural medicine — but really so much more than that, being a polymath. Amongst Durk’s many endeavors; as a physicist, he developed guidance systems for cruise missiles; as a creative, he wrote screenplays for Clint Eastwood, such as “The Dead Pool”; as a longevity researcher, he kicked off the wellness revolution with his New York Times bestseller, “Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach,” and; as a freedom advocate, his case against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), won an appeal in the Supreme Court and brought by my colleague, now ANH-USA General Counsel, “FDA Dragon Slayer,” attorney Jonathan Emord, burst the doors open to a liberalized market for natural health products in which truthful structure/function claims could be made to inform consumer choice. We ignore polymaths at our expense, and certainly the expense of future generations. Imagine if we’d ignored Aristotle, da Vinci or Turing? Or, in the East, if the Han Dynasty had ignored Zhang Heng? Are there words in the English language that fully describe what happened during the Covid years that are not already overused? Calamity comes to mind. Disaster. Cataclysm. Ruin, devastation, catastrophe, unprecedented debacle, fiasco, and utter wreckage – all fine words and phrases but nothing quite captures it. Given that, there is probably no report on the thing that can properly characterize the whole of it. On the other hand, it’s worth trying. Meanwhile, the results of Covid commissions of governments around the world have become unbearably predictable. So far they have mostly said their government failed because they didn’t act fast enough, did not enforce lockdowns hard enough, did not communicate and coordinate well enough, and so on. Everyone in the corporate world knows that when a committee reduces all problems to “communication and coordination” you are being fed a load of bull. “He sees you when you’re sleepingHe knows when you’re awakeHe knows when you’ve been bad or goodSo be good for goodness’ sake!”—“Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” You’d better watch out—you’d better not pout—you’d better not cry—‘cos I’m telling you why: this Christmas, it’s the Surveillance State that’s making a list and checking it twice, and it won’t matter whether you’ve been bad or good. You’ll be on this list whether you like it or not. Mass surveillance is the Deep State’s version of a “gift” that keeps on giving…back to the Deep State. Geofencing dragnets. Fusion centers. The winds of Washington are blowing icy cold for TikTok this December. A federal appeals court panel handed down a ruling today that could send the app packing— or at least force it into a kind of corporate divorce. The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has today declared the law threatening TikTok’s existence to be totally constitutional, leaving the platform to fight for its digital life. In short, TikTok has until mid-January to break ties with its Beijing-based parent, ByteDance, or risk an outright ban in the United States. Damascus has fallen. Assad is in exile. The power structure of the Middle East has changed over night. As The Free Thought Project reported over the weekend, beginning in late November Salafi-jihadist militant group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a newly rebranded contingent of the Al-Nusra Front, itself a rebranded variant of al-Qaeda, began making advancements in Syria as the group launched a new series of attacks throughout the country. In what can be described as a blitzkrieg pace, the jihadist group began their advancements from their stronghold in Syria's northwestern Idlib province, quickly taking the northern city of Aleppo before continuing their assault, pivoting south and seizing Syria's fourth largest city of Hama in just over a week as they began their march toward the capital. On Monday, former Texas Congressman Dr. Ron Paul told his audience on Twitter/X that due to an “internet outage in our area” he would not broadcast his daily live broadcast, The Ron Paul Liberty Report. Elon Musk, the executive chairman and chief technology officer of Twitter, responded to Paul, stating, “You should get Starlink”. Finally, Paul asked, “That sounds like a great idea! How much does it cost?” Starlink is what is known as a satellite internet constellation which is operated by Starlink Services, an international telecommunications company that is wholly owned by Musk’s aerospace company, SpaceX. Starlink satellites were first launched by SpaceX in 2019, and now reportedly provide internet access to people in more than 100 countries. They have become increasingly popular because of their ease of setup and relatively low cost. The most recent numbers on Starlink satellites say the satellite constellation consists of more than 7,000 small satellites in low Earth orbit. SpaceX has plans for 12,000 satellites over the coming years. Starlink is said to have more than 4 million worldwide subscribers. Most excess deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic can be linked to biological stress brought on by coordinated and large-scale mandates and medical assaults — ranging from lockdowns to va**ination to denial of antibiotics and antivirals — according to a paper released Monday by excess mortality researcher Denis Rancourt, Ph.D. The theory that the novel virus and its variants spread globally, causing cascading pandemics and massive numbers of related deaths cannot account for the actual patterns of excess death worldwide during the 2020-2023 COVID-19 period, Rancourt argues in the paper. That narrative has been used to justify permanent, national va**ination campaigns to repeatedly boost national immunity against new variants, according to the paper. However, it can’t explain what caused 31 million global excess deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic period according to Rancourt, a lead scientist for 20-plus years at the University of Ottawa in Canada. With the appointment of Marco Rubio to the post of Secretary of State, the Trump administration has elevated one of the most pro-war extremists ever to serve in the cabinet of the United States of America. In this article, MintPress highlights Rubio’s history as one of the most reliable warmongering voices in Washington, an individual who has led or supported many of America’s most aggressive foreign policy decisions, including military interventions, coups, and sanctions. Trump, who promises to be the “most pro-Israel president ever,” has picked a cabinet replete with neoconservative, pro-war voices. Rubio, however, may be the most belligerent of all of them, and his ascension to the most powerful position in Trump’s team does not bode well for the world. The incoming Donald Trump administration seems determined to wage as many economic wars as it can. The president-elect reportedly plans to pursue another “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran with the goal of “bankrupting” the country. Now he is threatening new trade wars with Mexico, Canada, and China at the beginning of his second term. Trump has favored using broad sanctions and tariffs as weapons to try to force other states to give in to American demands, and coercion seems to be the only approach that he understands. As one Trump foreign policy adviser said to The Wall Street Journal, “His whole worldview is maximum pressure, it’s that simple.” Economic wars can be just as devastating as armed conflicts in some respects, and sometimes they can be worse. Broad sanctions strike the entire population and can cause widespread poverty and hunger. Economic warfare makes no distinction between the civilian population and their political leaders, and typically it is the weakest and most vulnerable people in a country that suffer most from this form of collective punishment. “Maximum pressure” campaigns in Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea have been responsible for depriving people of essential food and medicine by making it difficult or impossible to import needed goods or by destroying the people’s purchasing power and making goods prohibitively expensive. Sixty-two years ago President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev had the wisdom to peacefully resolve the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy understood that Soviet missiles in Cuba were a response, in part, to US missiles near the USSR, in Türkiye. Kennedy wisely removed the missiles from Türkiye in a secret negotiated settlement, in exchange for the Soviets removing their missiles from Cuba. Kennedy and Khrushchev thereby stepped away from the brink of nuclear war. Kennedy had to keep the peace settlement secret, because he knew that anti-Communist crusaders in Congress and the security state would regard his actions as treasonous. He was in open conflict with the CIA, whose head, Allen Dulles, he had fired over the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Today the U.S. and Russia are, again, dangerously close to being at total war. In many ways, the crisis in Ukraine is the Cuban Missile Crisis in reverse, given that Russia, rightly or wrongly, views NATO expansion up to its borders as an unacceptable infringement on its sphere of influence.
