SHARE this post with a parent who is potty training their toddler Your tot is finally (maybe…at least sometimes…) able to pee or poop on the toilet. The next stage in potty training is the elusive wipe. You’ll definitely be doing it for them in the beginning, but you’ll also want to be teaching how to wipe to encourage independent wiping eventually. But getting from A to B will take lots of time and practice, and maybe a few tricks up your sleeve. Here are some suggestions. 👋 I’m Sharon Mazel, parenting and pregnancy expert, coach, bestselling author (previously co-wrote What to Expect When You’re Expecting and author of the new book BITE-SIZED PARENTING), and mom of four. Follow me at @sharonmazel for bite-sized, digestible, accessible, and actionable tips for everything pregnancy and parenting. Is your little one not eating vegetables? Not to worry. It could just be a phase (picky eating is pretty common in the toddler years). Here are some tips that could help. Adding a dip like guacamole, salad dressing, or tzatziki can encourage your tot to dunk and bite. Serve veggies as an appetizer or as a snack. Toddlers may be more amenable to eating veggies if it's not next to one of his or her favorite foods. Make a veggie smoothie. Don't use this to hide vegetables -- tell your tot it's a spinach and mango smoothie. There are plenty of ways to add vegetables to foods. But never do it in a sneaky way. Be sure to tell your tot that there are carrots in the pasta sauce, cauliflower in the mac 'n cheese, or shredded zucchini in the meatballs. Why not hide it? Because doing so doesn't teach children how to eat and enjoy the actual food. Plus, once your child catches on to what you're doing, s/he may feel angry and mistrustful about it. Offer some actual zucchini along with the meatball that has zucchini in it. And tell your tot there's zucchini in both! If you're especially worried your tot will be missing out on certain nutrients because s/he isn't eating any vegetables, as a temporary fix you can serve fruit that offers similar nutrients. Kiwi and green beans both have vitamin K; cantaloupe and carrots both have vitamin A; avocados and broccoli both have folate; mangos and red peppers both have vitamin C. But don't only serve fruit. Continue to offer vegetables at every meal. Just don’t make an issue of it if s/he doesn’t eat any. Remember, don't bring emotion or guilt or pleading to the table (that only adds to picky eating). One day your little one might surprise you by eating the vegetable you've been offering for days!

More information and more practical tips on sleep regressions in my book BITE-SIZED PARENTING. Get your copy today for less than $20! 🔗 Link in bio or anywhere books are sold! After months of sleeping through the night and regular napping, all of a sudden your baby dreamer has become a nightmare at bedtime and naptime. No more long stretches of sleep, no more naps. Your formerly well-rested baby is overtired and cranky, and frankly, so are you. What's going on? Sleep regression is what's going on. It's a normal hazard of babyhood and it can happen at any time, but usually around months 4-5 or 9-10, corresponding with a particularly busy burst of development. Your baby might be just about to master a new skill -- rolling over, sitting up, pulling up -- which leaves him or her too excited to settle down for sleep. Teething pain can also lead to a sleep regression. Here are some ways to handle a sleep regression. The good news: As long as you stay consistent with your sleep routines and comfort techniques, these sleep regressions will last for only a short time -- and your little sleeper will get back to being that dream sleeper in no time. #bedtimeroutine #sleepbaby #sleepingbaby #sleeptraining #sleepybaby #bedtime #babysleep #babysleeptips #sleep #sleepy #sleepcues #parentingproblems #parenting #dailyparenting #motherhoodrising #motherhoodsimplified #momlifestyle #motherhoodintheraw #letthembelittle #mommyandme #mymotherhood #babysleephelp #sleepingatlast #sleepingbaby #sleepingthroughthenight #lifeasamama #momproblems #sharonmazel

SHARE this post!! Did you know that experts recommend that children under age 2 not get any added sugar in their diet? It might seem impossible (after all, toddlers tend to consume over 5-7 teaspoons of added sugar per day), but there's good reason for these nutritional recommendations. Check out my infographic for reasons why ADDING sugar (beyond what occurs naturally in foods) into your little one's diet isn't a great idea. The top culprit for added sugar for tots is sweetened drinks, so give your cutie only milk or water to drink. Another way to avoid excess sugar: Skip the sweetened yogurts and add fruit to unsweetened yogurt instead. No need to prohibit all sugary treats (that would likely be impossible anyway). But do try to limit as best as you can when your little one is under age 2. And no need to worry about a dash of sugar here and there! Sugar is not poisonous. The idea is just to be mindful of reducing any added sugar to the extent possible, and to keep sugar intake to a moderate amount. #whatmybabyeats #whatmytoddlereats #babyledweaning #healthykidsfood #kidsnutrition #blw #foodforkids #whatifeedmykid #healthyfoodforkids #healthytoddlerfood #blwideas #realfooding #babyledeating #babyledfeeding #babyledweaningideas #babyfood #feedingsolids #babynutrition #feedingbaby #babyeating #startingsolids #hungrybaby #introducingsolids #blwtips #fussyeater #momhacks #positiveparenting #dailyparenting #parentingadvice #sharonmazel

Gratitude is a difficult concept to teach toddlers and preschoolers. They're self-centered by nature, but even toddlers as young as 18 months can start to learn the concept of gratitude. Gratitude is, according to psychologists, the number one tool for happiness. In honor of Thanksgiving, here are some strategies you can try with your child to help them learn the concept of gratitude. #gratitude #thanksgiving2024 #toddlerbehavior #toddlerlife #toddlersofinstagram #sharonmazel #toddlermomlife #parentingadvice #firsttimemom #sahm #momtips #motherhoodsimplified #honestlymothering #raisingtinyhumans #parenting101 #toddlerlife #positiveparenting #wahm #gentleparenting #momboss #motherhoodrising #mindfulparenting #montessoriathome #letthembelittle #momssupportingmoms #dadlife #toddlerlerhood #teachingkids #consciousparenting #motherhoodunfiltered
