Think of potty training as a process through steps rather than a number of days. First few days is bare buns where potty training is your number one focus. Seriously, you will be thinking about it about 90% of the time. Then you move to commando for a few weeks where you are still focused on potty training but only about 50%-75% of your focus. Once you hit the month mark and your child is in underwear, you can breath again. You are still aware of potty training but it doesn’t consume all your thoughts. Only about 15%. It’s ok to hold off on potty training if you are pregnant, sick, planning a big trip or move etc. The most important thing to consider is can you comitt to the process at that time. This is probably not the potty training advice you’d like to hear, but the number one tip is to stay consistent. For almost all kids, potty training will take more than 3 days. And as a parent, you will probably wish you could throw in the towel or rediaper your child to make things easier.
