*･.｡* Paralarva of the Cranch squid *･.｡* The visibility at Osezaki seems to have slightly improved compared to last week. Deep-sea creatures are gradually becoming more active as well. A kind of cranch squid paralarva live in deep sea. Mantle length 30mm. The body is transparent and it is beautiful squid like glass-work. The second image shows how the ink is temporarily stored within the mantle cavity. Encounter depth 2m. *･.｡* Pelagic Marine Gastropod *･.｡* This beautiful pink shell belongs to a species of pelagic marine gastropod called Oxygyrus inflatus. Upon closer inspection, it was preying on a shell species called Diacria trispinosa, which belongs to the family Cavoliniidae. *･.｡* larval anglerfish *･.｡* Its face from the front is charming and cute. A 7mm-long hairy larval anglerfish that I encountered during a blackwater dive in Kumejima in August. Two of the fin rays in its pelvic fins are remarkably elongated. *･.｡* Megalopa larva *･.｡* The megalopa larvae of crabs often have a rounded, square shape as seen here. The reason for this shape is that all of its legs are fold in along the body. The individual in the photo is a larva of the family Homolidae. Carapace length about 13mm. *･.｡* larval tonguefish *･.｡* Beautiful a larval tonguefish. The individual in the second photo (size:23mm) appears to be slightly more developed compared to the one in the first photo (size: 20mm). The green fluorescence present in their bodies fades as they grow, but it is not yet clear why they possess this green fluorescence only when they are young stage.
