Didn’t that snow come at a perfect time last night? We had a great time kicking off the holiday season at @cazenovia_life ‘s Caz Night Out! At ✨Vinyls & Vino✨ we got to have a little fun with Ava’s vintage record player and poured some free samples of our Winter beer & wine menu. While you’re out and about these next few weeks, on the hunt for what to get that special someone, we think it’s really important to keep that shopping as local as possible. And in Caz, there are some really great options for unique, handmade, or locally-crafted gifts. At the Pewter Spoon, you could pick up a gift card for that coffee enthusiast in your life or snag one of the rad @gimmecoffee t-shirts that all the cool kids are wearing.

We hope you’ll stop by the shop tomorrow (Tuesday) because we will have a special guest coming to visit for the first time in over a year. Eddy Phethean has long been a part of the Cazenovia community, and a part of the little Pewter Spoon community since as long as we can remember. In the funny kind of way life has sometimes, he’s that person almost everyone in town knows in one way or another, even if you can’t quite remember how you first met him. About a year ago, Eddy moved to Loretto Health & Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse. As you can imagine, this was a difficult transition for him — understandably so. Despite this, Pat and others from the community have made time to drop in to spend some time with Eddy and just talk, catch up, provide him with some sense of hometown familiarity. Oh, and bring him a slice of his favorite — our homemade bread pudding. Tomorrow (Tuesday), Eddy will be making a short visit to the Pewter Spoon at 11AM thanks to Jack Romagnoli, a wonderful regular of ours and a good friend of Eddy’s. If you know Eddy even a little bit, you know how he loves to talk to anyone and everyone, and you know just how much it would mean to him to see a familiar face and get a chance to talk. See you tomorrow morning?❤️

✨ This Friday is the annual Cazenovia Christmas Walk & Tree Lighting! It’s one of the best nights at the cafe because we extend our hours, pull out the paint and glitter, and invite people in to decorate some ornaments for our cafe tree. The best part is getting to see the beautiful ornaments you all make, young and young at heart! 🍻 From 6-8pm, we will be serving our full menu as well as a special soup & grilled cheese combo, perfect to pair with a glass of red wine for the grown-ups or a creamy hot chocolate for the kiddos. ❄️ Lots of other businesses will be having special events going on and local organizations will be tabling out in the cold so come on out and keep us company!

Nestled on a hilltop winter wonderland somewhere in DeRuyter, NY is a magical place known to our family as Paul Mannion’s Christmas tree farm (and more officially known as Green Side Up Farm). This place feels a little like you’ve stepped into a Dr. Seuss book, with its quirky, asymmetrical little cabin and snow perfectly plopped on the tree tops. Our mom, Pat, met the farm’s owner, Paul Mannion, when they volunteered together at CAVAC, our local volunteer ambulance corps serving the Cazenovia area. At that point, Paul was a retired professor of Forest Pathology at SUNY ESF and he knew all things trees. On a CAVAC shift together, he told Pat, still a bit new to the area, about his Christmas tree farm out in DeRuyter. Since then, it has become tradition in our family to pick out our tree together on the Friday after Thanksgiving and we’ve been going there for about 15 years now. And since we began our tradition, our family has grown and we’ve built and sustained a thriving business, so every year, we pick out a Pewter Spoon tree, too. The cafe tree greets people as they enter our hallway from the side door, its colorful lights keeping us in the holiday spirit and the hand-painted ornaments from past year’s ornament-decorating events serve as a reminder of the little ones who’ve helped us decorate our tree in past years, now not such little ones anymore. Last March, Paul passed away at the age of 82. But his sons are still keeping his legacy alive: Green Side Up Farm is still open and still honoring Paul’s legacy of $25 for a tree. His sons did ask us to help spread the word about their family’s farm, to keep the traditions of picking out your tree at their magical little farm alive. 2550 Crumb Hill Rd is a truly beautiful place to spend some outdoorsy time with family and loved ones. We hope you’ll find the perfect tree to take home, in honor of Paul Mannion and all that he gave to our community, both in service and in holiday spirit. ❤️

With heavy but full hearts, we are happy to announce our most successful fundraiser by far. Our raffle raised over $300, in person and online donations of over $600 and our 10% contribution brings the total raised to $2379.75. With a line out the door most of the weekend, we couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful 12th anniversary celebration. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. @cazenovia_life @rescueorg #freepalestine🇵🇸

Here at the Pewter Spoon, the cause of peace and justice in Palestine has always been near and dear to us. This past year, our hearts have been shattered again and again as we witness the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Some days we feel powerless, but we know our community has the power to come together and make a difference!  October 5th marks our 12th anniversary. To note  the occasion, we’re raising money for the International Rescue Committee which is working directly and with partners to deliver water, sanitation, and hygiene services, nutrition, and early childhood development activities in Gaza- all of which are desperately needed.  We’re also raffling off an amazing basket of Canaan Fair Trade products from Palestine and Pewter Spoon goodies - $2 per ticket or $10 for 7 tickets.  With hearts full of grief, and determination and hope, we know one day we will see a Free Palestine. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr- “the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice” 🍉 @canaan.palestine @rescueorg #freepalestine🇵🇸

We’re very happy and proud to announce that we purchased 87 Albany st (our building)!!! When Pat first decided to open a cafe, she talked the original lease down from five years to three because of the uncertainty of success. Twelve years later, in that same building, when the opportunity presented itself to buy, we took the leap. We’ve had two wonderful landlords who made lots of improvements, supportive neighbors and outstanding customers that allowed us to truly become part of the community. We’re very excited for this next chapter. Thank you, Pat and Ava
