With last evening’s holiday open house in the rear view (thanks to everyone who came!), we’re now looking forward to tomorrow’s author event with Phil Bayly. When Phil retired from his career as a journalist and newscaster, he become a murder mystery author! An avid skier, Phil has a series called Murder On Skis. It’s become an annual tradition for him to do an event here the first weekend of December. Tomorrow, Phil will do a reading and signing of his newly published book A Small Mountain Murder. Hope you can join us- we have all the books in the series and Phil will be signing copies tomorrow, Saturday December 7th from 1-3pm. @ski_it_read_it

Let’s get merry in Vischer Ferry!

Who is Ordie Shippee, you ask? He was the proprietor of the Vischer Ferry General Store from 1914 to 1947 (originally with his father, J.L. Shippee). Back then goods such as feed, fertilizer and dry goods were delivered by horse and wagon to customers, primarily farmers, who would pay Ordie in eggs or other trade. Until his death in 1982, Ordie lived with his wife Rose in the 1856 Greek Revival home next to the store. I am so honored to live in this charming home, and own this general store, carrying on the tradition of shopkeeper. What a dream! We created these new long sleeve tee shirts as a tribute to the good old days and the tenure of shopkeepers past. I don’t sell any feed, but you can purchase your own Ordie Shippee shirt at the VFGS!
