The importance of starting correctly will be demonstrated, how to use scaled sketches to ensure frame stays within the upholstery goal. Best practices will be discussed, such as making the most robust models possible.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of David James, a true leader in the world of upholstery. A legend in his own time, he started as an upholstery apprentice in 1954, and continued to upholster until just before he passed away. David was an excellent craftsman, as well as an accomplished writer and teacher, who generously shared his decades of experience. David authored, among many other titles, “Upholstery: A complete course”, a book many upholsterers will know (and often refer to!). He has helped countless upholsterers learn the skills and materials of the trade, and we will continue to benefit from his influence for decades to come. We are grateful for the knowledge he chose to share. David died on Friday, November 29th, 2024.

Mastering Cornice Construction with Nancy Letts Tuesday, November 12th at 1:00pm EST Fabricating upholstered cornices can be quite profitable with the right know-how. In this comprehensive class, Nancy will show you how to measure for, construct, and upholster a cornice, using a single piece of fabric for the face and returns. You will learn about what materials to use, considerations for bay and corner windows, things to watch for when measuring, methods to lighten large cornices, how and when to hinge large cornices, pattern placement, and more.
