E coil contamination on lettuce crops like romaine can allegedly be traced back to the largest cattle feeding operation in the world. Over 90% of all winter lettuce is grown in Yuma County, Arizona. Within the heart of the lettuce fields is a feedlot owned by Five Rivers Cattle Feeding. The cattle feeder was acquired by a private equity firm from JBS foods.
