😢😢From Baby Machine to Someone's Baby – Lexi’s Happily Ever After😢😢 Lexi churned out puppies for eight years and was in a terrible state. Her coat was filthy, her skin was poor and she had a terrible, barking cough. She’d had no vaccinations. No parasite prevention. She was simply a “puppy machine”. Despite all this, she came to Labrador Rescue with a waggy tail. She also came with a desperate need for a person who would love her. Lab Rescue paid for a series of tests, vaccinations and medications to get her health up to scratch. Her foster family helped her prepare for her first real taste of life after 8 years of making, and losing babies. It took twelve weeks to get Lexi ready to experience proper love and a real home. The matching team chose a selection of excellent families that fit Lexi’s needs and personality. Her foster mum chose a family of four, including a “dog-mad-dad." The whole family fell in love with her, but she adopted the dad. They’ve spent the last five weeks together and they're already soul mates. In just a few months, Lexi has gone from the grim, dark life of a neglected breeder dog, to a happy girl with a special person, a whole family, and, as it happens, a rather nice park with creeks nearby, which has become her “happy place”. Creating a life worth living for Lexi took a village. A village of vets, volunteers and patient parents. It too more than a thousand dollars. It took several hundred hours. But, jeez it’s worth it. Can you help us create more stories like Lexi’s? Grab your 2025 Lab Rescue Calendar for just $25 and every penny will go STRAIGHT to helping another dog like Lexi. #labrador #labradorlove #labrador #labradors #labrador_lovers #labradorsofinstagram #rescue #rescuedog #rescuedogs

The Nepalese Kukur Tihar festival is in full swing. It acknowledges that dogs are closer to the Gods than us, and should be worshiped and celebrated. Dogs get a special necklace and are given gifts of meat, milk and eggs. Do you know a certain breed of dog that appreciates a food gift?

Meet Honey, one of our "work in progress" dogs. Honey came to us "shut down". This is where a dog has been through so much trauma that she can no longer "trust humans". Traditionally, these dogs are impossible to rehome and sadly, most end up euthanised. Honey hid in the back of her foster family's garden for over a month, terrified of any attention. Honey had no positive experience of the world. She knew nothing about life outside her "cage". So every sound, every smell and every movement was utterly terrifying to her. Her foster family gave her as much positive attention as she would allow but she was so frightened that it took months just to get her to take shelter during a storm. Well, her foster family persisted, and Honey made her way inside. She found her own indoor "safe space" (the couch, it's always the couch) and meekly began to interact with the family. She wouldn't leave the lounge area in the home. Even on outings to the park or beach, Honey was too terrified to "experience joy". This week, a year into her new life, Honey ventured out of the lounge and began to follow her foster mum around the "big scary house". A MASSIVE STEP. She's waking up happy, with a wiggly bum and a big smile. She's been venturing into the water at the beach. She's even allowing males to come near her without fleeing. It's a tiny corner to turn, but Honey turned it this week. All of our dogs have been through trauma. From losing a family they've always known, to being rescued from an unspeakable situation. Our most experienced and committed foster parents take on dogs like Honey, where the process will be tough. Our new (or very busy) foster parents choose dogs (you choose the dog you can take on) that need to be loved back to happiness, given proper health care, a little training and then placed in the UTTERLY PERFECT new forever home. This process can take as little as two weeks if the dog responds well. Meanwhile, Honey still has a long way to go but our foster carers have a lot of love and patience. But not every dog will be "Honey level" challenging. Could you help a dog in crisis? We're always after new foster carers.

Happily Ever After - Ted's Story of Great Failure Ted's favourite boy developed severe allergies and, while it broke the whole family's heart, Ted had to find a new home. It turns out destiny was ready to step in! Ted was placed with a foster carer who specialises in dog training. Turns out, Ted is, well, full of life. He's turned up to 11, 24/7. His trainer/foster mum got to work helping him to improve his impulse control and develop his "good boy manners". Turns out, Ted loves to work. He is whip smart, and has boundless energy. In no time, he was "training the trainer" and working with "fur clients". While the plan was to send him off to a perfect family, it turns out, his perfect life is working in his own business, as a mentor and coach ;) So, Ted is one of our famous Foster Fails. He never left the foster family, because he belongs with them. There's nothing so wonderful as a perfect failure. If you'd like to join our team of foster families, we'll step you through the whole process and know, the only thing better than succeeding, is failing.
