OMG Investigates FEMA – Part 3: O’Keefe Sneaks Into Emergency FEMA Locations, Exposes Empty Disaster Recovery Center “We don't want to have an epidemic of people freezing to death,” a resident declared during the Buncombe County Commissioners meeting, voicing frustration over the slow pace of disaster relief in North Carolina. Another resident added, “I've never seen the lack of public officials coming out and actually trying to help,” reflecting the sentiment of abandonment felt by many in the community. Despite the mainstream media’s narrative of assistance, a resident revealed, “FEMA money runs out, and all the help I’ve seen has come from people out of state.” One FEMA employee even admitted, “Every delay means another night that a child sleeps in a car.” @OKeefeMedia Group investigated these concerns, visiting FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers across the state to uncover the reality of Hurricane Helene relief efforts. Once inside the Disaster Recovery Center in Polk County, OMG met Rosanne Walters, the manager of the facility. Walters claimed survivors were receiving assistance there “in various ways,” but the state of the center told a different story. James O’Keefe reported that the site was nearly empty, with employees “standing around,” while survivors continued to struggle. During the investigation, OMG encountered resistance from security at FEMA facilities, who insisted all press footage be reviewed by “their people.” Security’s hesitancy of press coverage only fueled suspicions of a cover-up, with an OMG Journalist adding “It makes it look like you’re hiding something.” @nc_governor @senthomtillis @buncombecounty @jdvance

“We just want to know where the cars are going,” James O’Keefe said to an official representing Strategic Security Corp. outside of a FEMA lodging facility, pressing for details on the movement and whereabouts of the disaster relief resources in North Carolina. The official responded, “If they didn't give you the information you want, then I'm sorry... you're gonna have to go.” @OKeefeMedia Group visited a FEMA lodging facility to investigate concerns about transparency and accountability in the wake of Hurricane Helene relief efforts. While staff redirected inquiries to FEMA's media affairs team, residents were again left without answers to vital questions. O’Keefe continued, referencing revelations made by FEMA Whistleblower Kelsey Goodman, stating that “DEI is part of the core values of FEMA” and adding that they “don't service people if they have a Trump flag on their lawn.” In an attempt to dodge accountability, a FEMA employee bluntly stated, “I'm not a spokesman for FEMA, dude.” When pressed further, a FEMA employee revealed, “I've just got a family I'm trying to protect,” referring to the tense environment surrounding FEMA’s staff, with some employees’ reluctant to speak out for fear of backlash. FEMA officials proceeded to cite additional safety concerns, explaining they were “not allowed to give out that kind of information for safety reasons,” before refusing to answer any more questions. O’Keefe called the number provided by FEMA, for answers on disaster relief efforts. A person named Nicole, representing FEMA, answered the call. Her blunt, repetitive responses earned her the nickname “HAL,” coined from "2001: A Space Odyssey." Despite O'Keefe's efforts, Nicole's vague, robotic answers only fueled suspicions about FEMA's lack of transparency. OMG is determined to track down this "HAL/Nicole" figure to uncover the truth and hold FEMA accountable. Stay tuned for part 3… @NC_Governor @SenTedBuddNC @SenThomTillis @buncombeGov @MitchellNC_gov
OMG INVESTIGATES FEMA - Part 1: "FEMA Doesn’t Want These People”: North Carolina Residents Still Stranded as @FEMA Fails to Deliver Aid After Hurricane Helene "This area was completely devastated," one Hurricane Helene victim in Western North Carolina shared, describing the extent of the flooding during the storm. "You can see, I mean, the river's quite far away, but the water came all the way up here. Everything inside has to come out." In the wake of the disaster, O’Keefe Media Group traveled to North Carolina to investigate the government's failure to provide timely assistance, despite promises of aid. “They [FEMA] haven't helped me yet," Swannanoa, North Carolina resident Daily Dow said. Many residents who have lost everything are left to fend for themselves while FEMA's support remains absent. Dow added, "FEMA has helped me with a hotel. They paid for my hotel," sharing she has one more day at the hotel before she and her children will move into "a tent with a stove, a wood stove in it." "It's been two months, and I can’t wait in the cold anymore," Dow said, emphasizing the growing despair. Despite FEMA’s promises of up to $47,000 for rebuilding, their inaction has left Dow feeling abandoned: "I'm eligible to get up to $47,000 to replace my house. But they haven't come through." In the face of government inaction, volunteers with Spokes of Hope, Savage Freedom, All Hands and Hearts, and other local communities are stepping in to support each other. "Churches have been really helpful," a volunteer shared. "Samaritan's Purse is doing a good job… Savage Freedom that's been coming out." Even with the outpouring of volunteer efforts, the lack of official aid continues to be a harsh reality for many. Stay tuned for PART 2 of our four-part series, where OMG takes hidden cameras behind the scenes to confront federal FEMA officials...
