I figured it was about time I put a face to this page and introduced myself. It's not very often I find myself on the other side of the lens. I prefer to keep this page less about me and more about my photography, but here we are. I'm originally from Scotland, growing up on the doorstep of the Cairngorms no doubt helped shape my love for the natural world. Moving to Australia as a teenager I quickly fell in love with the ocean and learnt to dive. This opened up a whole new world for me, I vividly remember my first encounter with a shark whilst diving on the Ningaloo Reef on a family holiday. After graduating uni with a BSc in Geology in my early twenties I had made up my mind that the traditional path in life wasn't for me. So I saved up my pennies and booked a one way ticket to Indo. It was on my first backpacking trip through South-East Asia that I fell in love with sharing images from my travels. Since then I've been lucky enough to work all across Australia as a wildlife tour guide and photographer, spreading my love for the natural world with people on tours and with you all on here. Thanks for all your support over the years, it's been amazing to be part of a community of like-minded people from all over the globe who love the natural world just as much as me ๐ #huntingforparadise #outboundphototours

It's my 31st birthday today and I usually like to take the day to reflect on the year passed... This year has without a doubt been the best year of my life, spending the majority of it immersed in nature with my wonderful partner (and now Fiancรฉ) exploring the Southern African continent. I've included some of my favourite moments from the year, but to be honest no photo (especially one consumed on social media in under 3 seconds) will manage to do justice to the majesty of the natural world. If you are lucky enough to have the ability/privilege to get outside and spend some time immersed in the wild next year, then I highly recommend you take the opportunity and see what all the fuss is about ! Here's to a great 2024 and thank you for all your support and encouragement this year ๐
Surely one of the most impressive eyes in the snake world ! The Elegant Bronzeback was a highlight of a herping trip to Malaysia late last year. @sonyalpha.anz @godox_global @cygnustech Sony a1 + Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro + Godox tt860 flash + Cygnustech custom diffuser 1/250, f/11, ISO 125
Happy world wildlife day everyone! Here's a couple of my favourite wildlife portraits from over the years Hopefully we're still lucky enough to share our planet with amazing creatures like this in the years to come... #worldwildlifeday
This summer I've been playing around with using a combination of super macro converters and optical snoots to highlight some of the smaller details on marine critters that I find on dives in the South-West. Take this Nudibranchs Rhinophore for example, a tiny little chemical sensory organ that the brilliantly coloured nudibranch uses to navigate it's underwater world. Perhaps only a couple of millimetres in size, but stunningly beautiful when viewed up close... @sonyalpha.anz @nauticamhousings @backscattervideophoto Sony a1 + Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro + Nauticam housing + Backscatter MF2 optical snoot + Nauticam SMC1 1/250, f/11, ISO 125
An unexpected find from our time exploring the jetties and dive sites of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia was this stunning pipefish. After a tentative ID placing it as a Gulf Pipefish, it was pretty cool to think how locally endemic this species is ! Watching them blend in with the underwater vegetation left me amazed at how well species can adapt to specific habitats over time... @sonyalpha.anz @nauticamhousings @inon_japan Sony a1 + Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro + Nauticam housing + Inon z330 Strobes 1/25, f/14, ISO 125
Shooting wide and close with one of my favourite lenses, the Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro ! This epic Bells angleheaded lizard was a common sight in the lowland jungles of Peninsular Malaysia. @sonyalpha.anz @laowa.au @godox_global @cygnustech Sony a1 + Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro + Goodx tt860 flash + Cygnustech custom diffuser 1/320, f/16, ISO 125
To me the most exciting thing about photography is the constant room for growth. The ability to bring yourself out of a creative lull by learning a new technique, or shooting on a new lens. The room to learn in this hobby is endless and it's such a rewarding thing to pursue. This summer I wanted to play around with shooting slow shutter images, to give a bit of motion to my underwater work, as I was stagnating with my work last year. I got the opportunity to put this new technique into practice on a recent trip to South Australia and I'm stoked with the results! @sonyalpha.anz @nauticamhousings @inon_japan Sony a1 + Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro + Nauticam housing + Inon z330 Strobes 1/50, f/16, ISO 125
How's the headdress on this epic little blenny !! I came across this beauty on a recent dive trip to the Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsulas in South Australia. Anyone have any idea on an ID ? I can't seem to find him in any of my books... @sonyalpha.anz @nauticamhousings @inon_japan @backscattervideophoto Sony a1 + Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro + Nauticam housing + Inon z330 Strobe + Backscatter MF2 snoot 1/40, f/11, ISO 125
I've been enjoying the opportunity to learn to shoot with a fisheye this summer whilst diving in the Southwest. I haven't had any crazy megafauna encounters yet to test the RS13 out, but I've been enjoying the results from shooting things like this school of Old Wives. Can you spot the odd one out in the middle ? @sonyalpha.anz @nauticamhousings @inon_japan Sony a1 + Nikonos RS13 fisheye + Nauticam housing + Inon z330 strobes 1/100, f/16, ISO 500
We came across this stunning snake, a Blue Bronzeback whilst out searching for vipers on a humid night on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur last year. The brilliant blue of its scales are so beautiful, especially when resolved on the 50mp a1 sensor !! @sonyalpha.anz @godox_global @cygnustech Sony a1 + Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Macro + Godox TT860 flash + Cygnustech diffuser
