Hi, we are Nelli and Juri, the creators of Hegi Design House. We have sketched and designed furniture pieces since 2019 and hand crafted them for our home. We are grateful for the feedback and support from our family and friends who encouraged us to follow our dream to start our own design studio and make our furniture available to all. In June 2020 we invested into HEGI DESIGN and the journey began. Juri wasn’t a bookworm, he loved working with hands. He decided to study fine woodwork in Germany (his father and grandfather have been woodworkers too and so the tradition carried on). I (Nelli) studied International Business in Germany. My passion was and still is interior and furniture design. We travelled and soaked in different inspirations from cultures all over, and decided to move to Australia in 2013. We felt inspired to stay in Australia and to start our own legacy. Furniture is so much more than just furniture. Furniture gives your home a feeling, it creates atmosphere. It tells of who we are, what we are and what we will be. Have you ever thought about your table? What does it represent? There are perhaps more kinds of tables than there are of any other type of furniture. For example, the dining table, coffee table, side table etc. One thing that unites all tables is that they are a gathering place, for people and belongings. It’s a place where we interact with others, family, friends and colleagues. We have not been honest with you. We had to stop.👇 We know it’s been a while, and we’ve missed sharing our journey with you. The past few months have been an intense period of exploration, frustration, and ultimately, renewal. We’ve always believed in creating collectible furniture that feels more like compiled art than just fine furniture. But I faced immense pressure—critics suggested we should shoot our designs against white walls, focus on specific materials, and follow trends. This led to a creative block where nothing felt right, and I felt empty. I took a step back to rediscover my passion. Over the last four months, I embarked on a journey to explore materials and design ideas, opening myself up to new possibilities. I found a deeper connection to our personal brand, one built on the duality of internal and external expression. At Hegi, we’re more than just a brand; we’re storytellers of sculptural, functional, and non-functional furniture. To us, it’s like ‘haute couture’ in the furniture design industry. Some designs are simple and functional, while others demand you to pause and ask, ‘What’s the story behind this piece?’ We’re excited to share this immersive personal journey with you. There was a reason why we designed Bold table - bold- she is a statement! “I love the simplicity and elegance that the structure of this table provides. Curved tapered legs, hug one another underneath the vast tabletop. From the detailing in the legs to the soft curve on the table top edge, each element, while quaint, is obvious that meticulous thought has gone into each detail. And don’t get me started on the walnut timber. Growing up in Kazakhstan taught us a completely different perspective on furniture. Pieces were inherited, handmade, and built to last a lifetime. We have vivid memories of our grandparents using a buffet that eventually became a gift to my parents when they moved out—a rare moment, as families often stayed together to help run the farm. It’s these memories that inspired a deeper appreciation for the meaning behind furniture. Around the table, we laugh, gather, and create lifelong connections, yet we rarely invest in the quality of these spaces where life truly unfolds. This sparked a mission: to explore what people collect, why it matters to them, and to inspire reflection on how we create belonging and meaningful connections. That’s why we’ve taken to the streets—to meet incredible individuals, hear their stories, and start conversations about what truly matters.
