Cresta Bella Project…we recently had the pleasure of furnishing a beautiful second home for our sophisticated clients in Cresta Bella. The primary bedroom is a sumptuous retreat with layers of beautiful bedding, custom drapery, a sophisticated textured wallpaper, stone front nightstands and an alabaster and gold circular chandelier. The comfortable seating area provides a second zone to relax and unwind. In furnishing existing homes for clients, we have found that they are often in need a personal touch or a mini-renovation—along with the furniture and drapery— such as changing out existing light fixtures, adding wall coverings, adding decorative moulding to walls, changing out small tile areas and other non-structural upgrades. We enjoyed providing all of these services for this special client, to enhance the beautiful furnishings that we selected for them. Omaha, Nebraska Project…this project has a very special place in our hearts because it was our first out-of-state architectural design and interior design project just outside of Omaha, Nebraska in Logan, Iowa. (Since then, we’ve designed for clients in multiple states and we love it!) We began this project by designing the kitchen and living room custom cabinetry. The bookcases flanking the fireplace are still the tallest ones we’ve designed to date, at 14’ tall. Then, we moved on to design the laundry room, the mudroom, the primary suite, the stairwell, the powder bath, all of the other baths and finally the downstairs TV center and kitchenette/bar. COVID rudely interrupted this project (as it did all of our lives) and we were thrilled to finally photograph this beautiful project two years later! These clients are now lifelong friends and we are so thankful that they trusted us with the vision for this amazing home! Terrell Hills Mid Century Project…here’s a look at the dreamy Primary Suite and light drenched closet. When our clients purchased this iconic home, they loved ALMOST everything about it. But, the primary closet was actually not located in the primary suite at all. It was in smaller closets behind louvered doors along one side of the home’s main hallway! Obviously, that doesn’t work with how we live today, so we assisted them with redesigning the existing floor plan to reroute the main hallway and to connect their dream walk-in closet (yes, it’s a walk-in closet now) with the rest of the primary suite. One of the main challenges was keeping the skylight that went down the original main hallway. We are so pleased with the final result! In the primary bath, we designed and installed new walnut cabinets in order to add back some period wood accents and removed an existing soffit that hid the home’s gorgeous Mid-Century sloped ceiling. We designed the wood framed vanity mirrors to be medicine cabinets. The primary suite was finished with modern furniture, art and bedding. Terrell Hills Mid Century Modern Project…a few of our favorite images from our latest MCM project. We were thrilled that the original wood paneling was still intact in the home’s living room that is cantilevered over the lawn. Just look at those magnificent oak trees through the window! We designed and incorporated some new walnut features, such as the custom geometric wood wall in the breakfast area to enhance the original wood accents in the home. Finally, we added MCM furniture and brightly colored artwork that completes the space. Terrell Hills Mid Century Modern Project…In the dining room, we built-in a new tall storage cabinet in walnut to warm up the space. The original cabinet had been previously painted over and it had many small impractical drawers with worn out drawer glides. The new cabinet conceals a vertical steel structural beam and also provides practical enclosed storage. The geometric dining table anchors the space while the dining chairs and artwork add personality. The fuschia blooming crepe mrytle branches were cut from a tree in the home’s yard. Terrell Hills Mid Century Modern Project…the natural light pouring into this home made it such a joyful and peaceful place to be. The linear steel framing of this home provides such strong architectural lines —both literally and figuratively. Sometimes, while we were there working, I’d take a quiet moment just to reflect and admire the architecture for a while. This stairwell was originally an atrium enclosed by glass on all sides and filled with plants and a large tree that lived in the space, reaching for the sky above. Sometime before the last two owners, the glass walls of the atrium and the tree were removed to make way for the staircase that now leads to the walkout basement below. We added a new geometric chandelier, mid century furniture and brightly colored artwork to the light filled space. Terrell Hills Mid Century Modern Project…we are thrilled to share our latest mid century modern project with you! This 1960’s home has a special place in San Antonio history. Originally designed by architect, Robert Harris, it was built for the iconic San Antonio real estate developer, Bernard Lifshutz, who later developed “The Blue Star Arts Complex” with his business partner. Over the years, the home was renovated several times and much of the original wood work was removed or painted over. Our team was tasked with bringing back this home’s MCM aesthetic and we throughly enjoyed reimagining what it once looked like and adding MCM walnut elements, such as this custom designed wood accent wall and built in banquette seating in the breakfast area. To complete the look, we added modern artwork, colorful throw pillows and new dining chairs to the owner’s existing MCM breakfast table. More of this amazing MCM to come!
