Now you can turn your SUV/crossover into a bed for car camping or road trips! Our “base camp” model (that will fit most SUVs/crossovers) is $1,680 for local pick-up. SHIPPING TO THE WHOLE U.S. STARTS SOON!! Follow to get the announcement when shipping starts! Want to know if it will fit your vehicle? Comment with the year, make and model and we’ll let you know! Here’s a walkthrough video of how to install the kit in your car for the first time. Because of it’s design, installing your kit for the first time takes a little longer (still under 10 minutes) because the kit needs to be secured around the back seats, and you’ll need to determine the height to set the adjustable legs to level your bed. After it’s installed, you can go from kit to bed in three minutes! Stay tuned for videos of the kit when it’s folded up + answers to frequently asked questions. 🚗 🛏 . #carcamping #carcamp #gocarcamp #rei #roadtrip #asheville #avl #grwm #carcampingadventures #carcamper #gtfoutside #hiking #travelrecommendations #traveltips #travelgram #travel #subaru

CarCamp FAQ: what the heck do I do with the kit at the end of a weekend car camping trip? The CarCamp kit was designed to specifically address the needs of folks who roadtrip and car camp a lot, but don’t want to have to set up their car for every trip and pack everything back in the house at the end of the weekend. What does that mean for you? That means that you can install the kit once each spring or summer (or just once if your a year-round travel). Just unfold the kit when it’s time for a trip. When you get home, fold the kit back up and remove any temperature-sensitive materials (like #jetboil canisters) and any snack materials (that might lure rodents, or larger animals) into your car), and you’re ready for the week. If you want more trunk space, removing the lightweight mattress is an easy way to still pack groceries, luggage, or Target hauls. The drawers are still accessible and usable even when the kit is in the closed position. An exception to the recommendation of leaving the kit in the car: if your vehicle has leaks of any kind and/or gets lots of moisture inside on a regular basis. Protecting the kit from water damage is important for years of car camping. #carcamp #gocarcamp #carcamping #travel #traveltips #roadtrip #roadtriphacks #campinghacks #outdoors

From sleeping in a comfy bed then back to your daily driver in under a minute! Sometimes we race ourselves to see just how quickly we can get the CarCamp kit put away. The record is 43 seconds, but our average is right around a minute. I love waking up in the car and being able to have a leisurely breakfast because I know “breaking down camp” will take just a minute! More time for relaxing, more time for experiences, more time for fun! How do you save time on the road? #carcamp #roadtrip #carcamping #carcampingadventures #travel #travelblogger #travelphotography #travelhacks #camping #campinghacks #firstsnow

As with everything, there are strong opinions about camping, sleeping, living, and traveling in your car. A lot of the comments I have received center around the lack of space in a vehicle or not being able to sit or stand up with a bed system in your vehicle. Well, it is a vehicle after all, not a hotel room. Camping in your car comes with sacrifices, like less space. It can also mean less comfort if you go for a barebones blankets-on-the-floor setup and don’t find a bed/car camp setup that works for you and your sleep style and needs. But to me (and many other people) you get so much more when you travel and sleep in your car that you can’t get from a hotel. You get less living and sleeping space, but you get SO MUCH MORE outside space. I also sleep so much better in my car, in the middle of the woods than I do in a noisy hotel room where I always feel like bugs are crawling on me (yea, this is a me thing). I feel like expectation is a big part of the battle here. If you go into car camping expecting it to be like a hotel or an Air Bnb, you’ll likely be disappointed. If you go into it expecting it to be a wonderful, outdoor adventure, where you save $150+ a night (the cost of the average hotel stay in the US), you’re already on the right track. If you’re not into car camping, that’s cool too. There are so many lodging options you can pick from. And if you’re just here to leave negative comments, I welcome them. Even meanies boost my engagement 😘 #carcamping #carcamp #sleepinyourcar #november2024 #november #travel #travelblog #travelblogger #roadtrip

We had big plans for a 3-day, birthday car camping trip this weekend. Mother Nature Helene said nah. Flood/high water isn’t something to mess with - especially when car/tent camping. Water can rise quickly and leave you without an escape. This is especially true at night with lower visibility and especially especially while you’re sleeping. Let’s stress the importance of always checking the weather before a trip (saying this partly to my partner who has such a positive outlook and usually thinks “it will be fine”). Stay safe, people! #flood #flooding #helene #hurricane #tropicalstorm #flashflood #hurricaneseason #asheville #wnc #avl

It’s leaf peepin, car sleepin, mountain creepin weather! Here’s how to turn the inside of your car into a full-size bed so you can be comfy for all of it! 🚗 🛏 😴 👌 Step 1: get a CarCamp convertible storage and bed platform (you can also build a platform yourself, but it will most definitely be more than three steps and also probably more than three days (or weeks), and will it have drawers, and will it be over 6 feet long, and will it be right the first try?) Step 2: Strap the kit in your car. Step 3: Unfold it, and voilà. #carcamping #carcamp #carcamper #carcampingadventures #roadtrip #roadtrippers #travel #travelblogger #travelblog #campinghacks

There are few things I love more than cool-weather car camping. Becoming a blanket burrito inside my grandma’s heavy quilts and dozing off in the National Forest can’t be beat. In the mornings, I especially love waking up while it’s still chilly, when the sunlight is just peeping over the horizon. I’ll slip on warmer clothes while I’m still under the blankets and do a 3,2,1 count down to coax myself out of the car. Then I’ll set up the drawer top table, boil some water in the Jet Boil and make a tea, chicory coffee or hot chocolate. Even though the cold air fills the car, I like to leave the hatch open, use the drawer tops as a side table for my drink, and crawl back inside the still-warm bed. Safely back in my den, I’ll watch the sunlight speckle the ground as it makes its way through the trees and changes the scenery in front of me. I love the bed in my house too, but the view from the CarCamp bed gets to change every morning! #camping #carcamping #fall #coffee #tea #nationalforest #campingtips #travel #travelblog #travelblogger #jetboilcoffee #fallcamping

It’s time to do some math, kids. The kit itself is 9” tall. Most folks opt for a 3” mattress. The height of your vehicle from floor to ceiling (right behind the fold of your rear seats) - 12 inches = the amount of headroom over the kit. Measuring from floor to ceiling behind the rear seats gives you an accurate measurement, even if your cargo space is sloped or the back seats don’t fold flat. The kit comes with adjustable legs and spacers for bringing the bed level with the spot behind the back seats. I started out with a kit that was 12” tall. While it was great for storage, it felt like more room was needed. Dropping the height by 3” has made all the difference. Yes, there’s still some shimmying to get in and out of bed, but it is after all, a car and not a full-size bedroom. #carcamping #camping #travel #travelphotography #travelblog #traveltips #campinghacks #sleepinyourcar #asheville #greenville #knoxville

I love getting to a car camp site with ample time to settle in, make dinner, drink a cup of tea and really feel the newness around me. That doesn’t always work out. We rolled into this campground (in Ivanhoe, VA) at 11:37pm. We were exhausted, quickly converted the CarCamp kit to our bed, and went to sleep. The trade off to getting into your site after dark is the surprise of new scenery in the morning. Sometimes the first look outside is terrifying (we’ve woken up in free campsites that looked like mini-landfills), but this one was a beautiful surprise! PSA: as a female, when I travel solo I’m very cautious about the places I will roll into and sleep after dark without being well aware of my surroundings. Traveling with my partner does provide a privilege of letting my guard down some that I’ve never had while traveling before.
